Some courses ran fast while others ran slow. Does anyone have insight?
Crow Creek in Bettendorf and the SEP course are both hilly grinders
Ames hosted at Iowa state was about .06 miles short
Iowa city and marshalltown are most aligned with performances you would expect at fort dodge
That isn't what I asked. I know all of the courses well. That is why I asked why some ran slow and others ran fast. Crow Creek ran normal. Marshalltown ran at least 30 seconds slow. Zuber and Kifle ran slower than usual and were at ISU. Ashton ran much faster than 2 weeks ago on the same layout. We're you at a meet? Marshalltown is the one that was most out of line.
If Dowling runs the same times at state, they won't be top 5.
Maybe they were tempoing? I heard that their top 4 did that last year at the state qualifying meet.
They want to make sure that they don’t peak too early. They probably want to peak at NXR because I think that at Griak they found their potential to make NXN
Ashton ran faster then 2weeks ago on same layout? Please explain
You can’t be comparing Ashton to birdsal are you? Hardly No boys go sub 16 on birdsal any year. If your not 15:30 or quicker other places your probably not breaking 16 there.
Until this year,
Last time Sioux City North boys didn’t qualify = 2016
Last time Iowa City boys didn’t qualify = 2017
Sioux City North is losing 3 of their top 4.
Iowa City is only losing 1 senior.
Actually, 2019 is the last time Iowa City didn’t qualify
I had never been to Marshalltown before yesterday and have no knowledge of how times yesterday compare to past races, but was talking with a course official before the race and he said kids were going to be suffering in the last half-mile straightaway to the finish because of the headwind. It was certainly windy, though it didn't seem too bad to me, but maybe that slowed times a bit. The footing seemed pretty rough, too, and I saw a few runners almost go down after stepping in divots. Possibly a factor, too?

There are of course a bunch of other kids who could crack the top 20 on their day. My one specific note is that I know Maloney hasn’t displayed 8th-place ability all season, but I’m taking a flyer on him at state with his 4:14/9:16 PRs.
Forget Dowling.
Hensley 15:24 - 16:00
Smith 15:49 - 16:21
Mcclinron 15:38 - 16:25
Those are the 1st three non Dowling guys. How are they running 30 -40 seconds slower 6 weeks later?
September 28. Not many same guys but all ran faster yesterday. Then we have same day conditions where everyone was significantly slower than earlier in year so conditions can't be the cause. Did they make a mistake in course at Marshalltown? I will search through strava.
Good list.
Maloney was 2nd yesterday.
Dowling is in trouble if there is no explanation regarding the course. They lost conference last week.
My guess and only a guess is no one took it out fast like the meet there when Zuber and Merrick went out extremely fast and stayed fast. Then it was windy as well. In my opinion it’s all guessing with the top 4 teams who’s leaving as the state champs next Friday. Any team has one runner that under performs and it’s over for them.
Waukee NW ran very well yesterday also.
Does not wanting my kids to watch a bisexual threesome at the Olympics make me a bigot?

Gudaf Tsegay will not race the 10000m? Just to spite the federation?
