Really? I thought he struggled slightly. I mean, he was obviously ok, but it was nothing like as comfortable. He was working,
He clearly likes to hug the rail and see if anything opens on the home straight.
It's a 3:31 Olympic semi against a world class field--expecting it to look comfortable or effortless is maybe asking a bit much. And he got free from the rail when he needed to.
That Ukraninan girl pulled the flag out of her backpack. Insane flex haha. Means it was packed that morning.
She broke the world record earlier this year, it's not a super unexpected flex. Also, very little downside: if you don't medal, just... don't pull it out of the backpack.
Very true. I got flashbacks to when a not to be named team beat mine at ncaa regionals and pulled out champagne.

Kessler ran fine. He doesn't have the weapons to threaten the medals in this field so making the final is mission accomplished for him. Now, he just needs to aim for a PB because he can't compete at the front in the final.
The only thing that gives me pause is that I don't know if Hocker can find a top gear in a 3:27/28 race. We've never seen it from him yet but there's always a first time

Nuguse 3:31 from the front. Which shouldn't be that surprising considering he ran a 3:43 mile last year and 3:30 from the front at the trials this year. Now it'll be interesting see how his tactics change for the final.
He should take it from the gun, Jakob will come around and he pulls a Pre 3:43 Mile and sits on Jakob to a 3:27. Kerr did look full of run at the end, he will be hard to break from the front.
Kerr and Josh both sprint off the line, it's 39 seconds through the first 300 and yet they have no trouble keeping the pace. The rest of the field are fading away... the two up front run down the back straight side by side, step by step, they stay in sync despite the effort beginning to show.
They hit the bell on world record pace, the commentators and crowd cannot believe what they are seeing. Still they run side by side as they both kick for home. Down the home straight now, who's gonna win the gold?
Then as if out of nowhere, the ghost of George Mills trips over Jakob and he stumbles, taking down Kerr with him! Both take a few seconds to get up and as they do they get a front row seat of a pair of prime farmer's cheeks blasting through the finish line.
The NBC feed I'm watching has an analyst doing a detailed analysis of medal count, with emphasis on home country boosts. Doubly obnoxious, because 1. even though I'm American, I support the global consensus that gold medal counts matter more than total medal counts, and 2. They need to be at the track, not in an analyst studio.
