Didn’t get to watch live, but saw replays of most of the races on YouTube. Even though T&F has its issues it is still far and away the best sport on many levels.
1) Santa Claus isn't real, I'm going to wait a couple of years to truly believe a 14:00 women's 5000m record. Tsay should have drug folks following her year round.
2) Mu is not back but better, she honestly has a shot at WR. Her tactics that race were so bad in lane 2 almost the whole thing, still closed like a train.
3) Jakob is king, and he was sick at world for the 1500m.
4) Grant Holloway shouldn't be a favorite in the 110 hurdles at the Olympics. He can't close, might be a good thing for him.
5) Jackson is going probably going to break the 200m record next year.
6) Grant Fisher adds to the cross training hype that Parker Valby started
Lol. Point 1 also applies to points 2, 3 and 5. Your bias shows.
She has always been exciting to watch. She has always been a great runner. Today she became a role model by taking an outcome that she didn't want and learning from it and showing back up. Even if she hadn't had such a stellar performance today, I admire her for showing back up with a different perspective. Just like with Sha'carri, I am an even bigger fan. Athing Mu is total class!
Yep. Very classy, and I never thought otherwise.
I think there’s an embarrassing tendency here for posters to credit their psychological “advice” — you know, what they should have thought or done all along — for a triumph by a previously out-of-favor athlete. Think Mu or Richardson.
“See, she just needed to get that loss behind her and she’d get her mind right,” or “She ditched the wig, fingernails and grievances and now she’s free to run her best.”
What drivel. You fantasize their mental framework as idiotically as the nitwits who blather on about Val Allman’s background as “a competitive dancer” having some role in her success.
I’d rather see more “pure hate” than all y’all faux-Freuds tardily bandwagoning some great athletes you didn’t understand (or like) then and don’t understand now
I just appreciate people that model strong character. Not a bandwagon. Always has been a thing.
No track athlete fits this criteria, but there are very, very few people in the world that do. You can certainly be famous despite not being recognized by every single person in the world. Up to interpretation whether you think any track athletes are famous, but I think it’s unfair to everyone to say that if everybody in the world doesn’t know them, they aren’t famous or well known to the public eye.
Great performances this weekend. Does make you question what the explanation is for the track being so fast though.
It's always been a fast track. It didn't all of a sudden become fast this weekend.
In May, I ran on the Hayward Field track at the Hayward Classic (for masters). Just missed the 100/200/400 M70 age group meet records. Compared to a Mondo (“carpet”) track, I found the new Hayward Field track soft and squishy. Far more beneficial for 800m and up multi-lap events that would be easier on the legs. For sprinting (up to 400m), I have found the Mondo tracks faster, although I can see why distance athletes would not want to run on such a hard Mondo surface. It seems that Knight/Nike designed the track to favor distance runners rather than sprinters. I would give more credit to the new track shoes for sprinting results (and the usual tailwind at Hayward Field) than to the track. IMHO. -
Regarding podcast comment that sponsors should have offered free tickets —- a couple of days before the meet OTC sent offer of 2 free tickets to both days. For me the biggest impediment to going to a meet at Hayward is that it is very difficult to get a decent place to stay in Eugene even when there is not home football game. The worst and most overpriced and misleading Air BnB I ever landed was a place near the stadium in Eugene.
