The girls are good this year, but are losing a few of their top 7. The boys program have 7 juniors that are all returning. Things next year will look a lot different. I wouldnt say the girls are a "better program" considering the history of york.
I mentioned how the 5th place runner was 27 seconds behind 4th place and 30 seconds ahead of 6th place.
I knowwww. thanks for pointing it out!!!It just was neat to see it.

I know I'm the one who brought this up (re: Znadja)!!!! but now I think we should just drop it!!! BECAUSE upon reflection I have seen this happen before with 16-year-old girls. Normally really strong female runners go out too hard in UNSEASONABLY WARM, end-of-season races. They end up "hitting a wall" and either not finishing, or struggling to finish and place well below their norm. I saw this at a regional race years ago; that runner said it was dehydration. It could be a combination of physical/mental, maybe she was getting the flu or nagging injury. maybe she was dehydrated? She didn't start fading until 2.25 mi (it's my understanding). It should just be discussed between herself, her coach, her parents. maybe her teammates. but I don't think we should discuss it on Let's Run. I mean, this is a 16-year-old, not a pro athlete. I believe this year's state champ, Scout Storms, DNF'd last year's state meet due to a physical ailment & it wasn't discussed here. I mean, I understand S Storms wasn't leading when she dropped out, but still. Discuss as you want, I'm not a Let's Run mod, but I prefer the discussion to end re: Znajda. She still has 3 more state meets to redeem herself (I thought she was a senior at first but no, she's just a junior).
Also, I saw at least one boy near the top 30 really struggling to finish, from it looked like heat exhaustion or dehydration. And at the interview, the DGN boys team looked *toasty* warm.

You are saying this year, you aren't trying to say historically better?
New name, I got banned.
Actually over the last few years, the girls have 2 firsts and a second at state in 3 years. They seem to be just reloading every year now, like the boys used to.
1. Obviously no one is going to surpass the boys going back to the early 60's.
2. It can't be denied the girls have been more successful recently, not just this year.
3. York's boys participation has declined while the girls has increased.

Those 7 juniors are going to need to improve a ton to make the top 10 next season.

If she's a junior that means only 1 more state meet.
It is likely that it was not dehydration, but rather hypoglycemia. This happens a great deal, and I've seen many runners go down in races unable to finish.

Yes, I agree that the Girls program is in a better place than the boys and the girls results have shown that over the last 3 years.
I think it's good on the boys side that other schools programs have caught up and surpassed York's dominance at State.
No school program girls or boys is ever going to reach York's 28 State Championships and a total of 46 team trophies.

Did you look at the Palatine results? The girls won the JV race with 23 points using a top 7 consisting of 1 frosh, 4 sophs and 1 junior. Their times weren't that far off the top 7 that won state. And they beat Barrington and DGN, who ran mostly upperclass girls.
State 3A girls, a race with so many pr’s…. Except those who ran in the Granite City Sectional. State meet week isn’t the time to question performances but now it’s over if you look at the times run that day vs. Peoria where so many athletes dropped 15-20 second pr’s this is what the top 7 at Granite City ran, then at Peoria 7 days later: ( no names, just times)
16:53 / 18:33
16:57 / 17:25
17:18 / 17:25
17:24 / 17:51
17:25 / 19:16
17:27 / 17:40
17:30 / 18:17
around a full minute SLOWER at Peoria on a course and a day where athletes pr’ed throughout the field. Can anyone shed light on Granite City being short, using long stretches of paved paths or the course being adjusted vs. previous versions.

Granite City is flat and fast and it appears on the boy side the times translated to Detweiler with a much smaller margin. anywhere from 1 second to 20 seconds and in some cases faster on Detweiler than Granite City. Undoubtedly Granite City is an easier course. I would be analyzing what on earth the kids did leading up to the race having that much disparity. My guess is super fast short reps that were not controlled.
Wow, Downers Grove destroyed Plainfield North and the speed rating average is similar
Plus North almost 3 ahead of South when they were only 9 points apart and South was ahead at 3 of 5 positions. I wonder if they got a couple guys mixed up.
He does a nice job especially doing it alone. He must record his commentary along with the race so he can go back to analyze the races. I know I couldn't recall all that over 6 races. Maybe he has a few guys along the course recording too, there's no way he can cover the entire course.
