People are showing up to watch CC. When she goes off to the WNBA all this hoopla will die down and all the crowds will go away.
The South Carolina - LSU game a few weeks ago drew 1.6 million viewers which was more than the Miami Heat - Boston Celtics NBA game which was playing in the EXACT same time slot. So head to head a women's college basketball game outdrew an NBA game. And not just any NBA game, a rematch of the 2023 Eastern Conference Finals! And no Caitlin Clark in site. Shes been raising all boats. The women's basketball universe is changing. Amazing what happens when you promote their game rather than doing everything to ignore it.
South Carolina is also beating Iowa in average home attendance. (16.381 to 14,998). Iowa is at 100% capacity so they cannot go any higher. (South Carolina is at 91% capacity.) Those two plus LSU are easily beating the average attendance of their men's teams.
What's interesting is that unlike Iowa, LSU or UConn, South Carolina does not have any individual star, at least not this season. Yet they are doing extremely well at box office and tv ratings.
Ive been hearing that recently but I dont think scoring works like that. its not a simple mathematical conversion. Its guesswork at best. Also Maravich avaerged more than 38 shots a game. 38! Can you imagine someone doing that now? Clark takes less than 20. So her efficiency is much higher. Maravich played with four guys who basically gave him the ball on the inbounds and got out of the way. Hannah Steulke, one of Clarks Iowa teammates, recently scored 47 in a game with many of those assisted by Clark.
His father was the coach. Reminds of youth basketball when the star player is the coach's son. It wouldn't happen now.
John Wooden once told Lew Alcindor that he would break Maravich's scoring record if UCLA structured their entire offense around maximizing his scoring opportunities. And then, he added the Bruins would not have won the national championship of they had done that. Kareem told him that would not be worth trying then.
LSU went 14-12, 13-13 in Maravich's first two seasons. They did manage to make NIT in his last season and finished 4th.
The purpose of records is not to satisfy the incurable enthusiasms of men with sweating beer bottles in hoarse bar arguments over arcane decimals. It’s to provide some memory-measure of great deeds. Iowa’s Caitlin Clark is ap...
I'm in downtown Minneapolis (Big 10 tourney is here) and there is some major buzz around Caitlin Clark, at the very least. I saw her a little bit ago and have got messages from three other friends who saw her in different places around downtown.

Todays Iowa v Nebraska women’s game was very exciting and well worth the watching! Both teams played extraordinarily well, and that Iowa player, Caitlyn (sp) put on a demonstration of skill, courage, and sportsmanship I’ve rarely seen matched. I will continue to watch her and her team, now that they are in the NCAA tourney.
My guess is no! The stands are all empty. It’s comical. Yet espn wants to promote womens basketball to no end. Kinda sad. Women play inferior basketball to men and the games are boring
