One of the guys that he beat was Nick Gilles, who won state last year and had a great first race at St Olaf, beating Scott/Jones/Casey (and Hamza). Gilles was sick at Griak, but he ran pretty well at Hoka. Speaking of times… In this meet… 2022- 11 under 16 28 under 17 2021- 5 under 16 28 under 17 Only talking about the varsity boys races here. Though there were 2 guys that broke 17 in the JV race last year, and 1 in the girls varsity race this year.
OK thanks. Maybe he will be a great one. I wonder if he would take it out or just bide his time until maybe a half mile left at the state meet. Maybe he can win by 5-10 seconds if he is that good.
Last year not a single person from Wayzata broke 16 in the lake conference race. Today 5 broke 15:51. Clearly they have a better team than last year now. Their 6/7 might have room to improve too. 6th went from 16:13 in this race last year to 16:20 this year. 7th went from 16:57 (as a freshman) to 16:50. Other Wayzata top 7 guys dropped between 30 and 60 minutes from last year.
Fries was the first freshman in MN to break 16 this season. His 15:51 also puts him in the all-time top 10 list for MN freshmen.
Some questionable results from lake conference. Jackson Downin from Minnetonka ran 18:38!? He just ran 9:57! What happened. Also what happened to Gilles? And where was the rest of Edina’s varsity team. But very fun to see the results.
Are they still gonna use Downin in the sections lineup (and just treat conference as a bad race) even if both Fries brothers are racing? His first mile was a 4:55. Maybe he went out just a little too fast
Derouin from EP appears to slowly but surely get back into form. He ran a 16:33 at Bauman Rovn. He was their #2 man there I think. But with Bakken back, his conference performance makes him an 8th runner. Are they still gonna put both of them in the sections lineup? He was with the top 2 EP guys in the first mile in this race. Probably went out just a little too fast as well.
Is Defor done for the season? There’s no way Edina’s making state without him.
Dowling catholic IA (Griak champs) - these are from last week. They ran another race this week. 185 177 170 168 163 Wayzata may have gotten only 3rd at Griak, but they might have re-established themselves as favorites in the state and the region as well.
The Wayzata top 5 might not be easy for North and Rosemount to catch up to. The top 2 Wayzata speed ratings at conference were 174 and 171 last year. So 5 SRs this year above the #2 SR from last year.
Yeah, the Wayzata boys & girls teams both looked great yesterday. Five guys 15:50 and under on the Gale Woods course is hard to beat. And Abbey was brutal. She should have clear sailing all the way through Sioux Falls. It shouldn’t be until national meets that she’ll be challenged.
Weird that it’s gonna happen during school hours and also in the snow
Thank you for letting me know, bummer. Wish I had looked into it yesterday, didn't think of the idea until this morning. Thought I could get there at 3 or 4pm, didn't occur to me to have the urgency to see a meet in the middle of the day on a Friday. Next time, looking forward to catching a few section meets.
Prior lake wins the girls race over Farmington. Both teams return everybody. Prior lake actually has only freshmen and sophomores. PL might be getting a state title eventually. Like the boys did at TCRC 2020 (though that was not a real state race)
Rosemount put 7 all conference! North put 6th. Almost had 7 but Rosemount’s seventh took the 20th spot. Maybe if they all beat that Burnsville guy, both teams would have put 7 in the all conference. Would have been crazy. North wins by 1 point. Insane close race Mulrooney 2nd place was a huge surprise. As well as Starfield taking down Hage also. Mulrooney was not even varsity last year (except at the sections race cause a couple of the rosemount regulars were sick of injured).
