I mean I was surprised when I saw him go to the front so quickly, I was even more surprised when I saw the rough 300m split because I then knew it was going to be sub 55. I just don't get that. In his 3.26, with pacers, with lights, in a one-off race, he was over a second slower through 400 - that is considerable, especially for a strength based guy and not a speed based guy.
I think either Jakob massively overestimated his ability, or let the occasion get to him. I never expected to ever write those words about him.
Also, this is the greatest 1500m of all time. Easily. Funnily enough it matches the exact time from Hicham in Seville 1999 - down to the hundreth, but this was infinitely better with any one of 4 guys with a legit chance to win in the final 120 vs a glorified TT that was won easily.
Hocker will never execute a race as good as that no matter how long he runs. That is the mark of a champion - to do that when it counts the most.
This isn’t a “no schadenfreude zone” is it? Because I did enjoy seeing the big talkers get upset by the quietly confident Americans.
That was fantastic. Josh Kerr looked happy though! I love Jakob and all his talking but this was very cool.
When you know you did everything you could and you PB you have to be happy. If you can't be happy with that you should hang it up. I don't know how Jakob copes with his performance though.
Well done to Hocker - that was a perfectly executed race.
Jakob fan boys - like I’ve said time and time again - he only does well in DL races with pacers and lights. He actually can’t pace himself. He said in his post race interview that he had no idea how fast he was going - he just felt good. To be fair he was as quite humble in the interview.
Kerr - probably ran as well as he could. He beat Jakob and I just think Hocker had the better kick (and found space).
What a race!
This could be the end of fast 1500 finals. Jakob has to know he can't win this way now.
Jakob blaned nobody but himaelf in tv interview. First lap too fast, felt very good and started faster than he thought. Have seen him much more depressed after champoinships than this
Honestly as good as he is, his best event just isn't the 1500. Hindsight is 20/20 but after the 2022 loss to Wightman, I think he should have shifted up to the 5,000/10,000 at championships. Hard to say if he could take down Cheptegei, but he'd be a strong silver medalist.
he went out in 54.9 because he had to run his @ss off on the 2nd 200 to get past komen, and then komen pressed him tight the entire time. it is difficult to avoid in that circumstance.
the second 100 was his fastest split of the race.
everything else, besides the penultimate 100, when he was attempting to hold off the field, was VERY even.

Honestly I think he'll double down. But hopefully he watches some El G tape.
Cannot get over Jakob's arrogance. He's unbeatable with a rabbit but it's delusional to think he can solo a 3:26 against a field this good. Opening with 54? Come on
People would say that no matter what tactic Jakob would choose.

Man, just let Komen lead for 400. Clearly Komen wasn't going to run 62. He was going to run 54/55. Tuck in, pass when the pace starts to lag like in Tokyo when Tim led it out.
I predicted that everyone was talking about Kerr and Jakob but after that semi the Americans and Africans were being under estimated. Well I was half right, OMG this was way better than that 3:50 in 2016. Cole has the best kick off a fast pace in history and Hobbs Kessler is scary good. I guess Kerr forgot about the Americans, Yared almost beat him. The Americans are now the best milers/1500m runners in the world. Jakob has his gold medal in the 1500m, he now needs to settle into the 5/10. A 3:26 1500m man will be devastating against 5/10 runners. Unless he develops a killer kick, he just can't win these types of 1500m races. He's only 23 but so is Cole and other young runners like Laros are coming up and Hobbs has a 1:43 800m and he's only 20 or 21. In two years maybe even next year he may be unbeatable. Take your gold medal Jakob, be happy with it and take your 3:43 mile and 3:26 1500m speed and dominate the 5/10.
