Yes, CBA loses 4 varsity guys, but they are still the outright favorites to win the NE. CBA returns 5 sub-4:20 guys, and 4 more sub-4:30. They finished well ahead of Ridgefield. Ridgefield loses only Hergenrother, but he was an individual NXN qualifier so he was a big part of the team.
The northeast has teams outside CBA? Why didn't anyone ever tell me.
Northeast has had some really good teams other CBA in the past. Bishop Hendricken (RI) took 4th at NXN in 2018. Lasalle Academy (RI) took 6th at NXN in 2019

just like how distance runners are running much faster now, teams are way faster as well. Those teams would be creamed if they raced in the 2023 race

A lot of people think that it’s the new shoe technology that’s making them faster
Great Oak reloaded well in 2023 from 2022. In 2022 they had 5 seniors on varsity, and in 2023 they beat all CA teams at Woodbridge. At CIF, they beat Oakdale (one of the fastest teams to not make NXN).
Great Oak was 17th at nxn so calling oakdale as one of the fastest teams is out of the question and I am saying this as a California runner
Oakdale has the 21st fastest time ever at Woodward and is like the 15th fastest team ever there (removing duplicate Clovis-State times for the same team). They have replaced 2019 Jesuit as the fastest team from California to not make NXN (by 25 seconds) and were certainly one of the fastest to not make NXN.
The course had loads of standing water. You think SoCal kids are used to that? Oakdale would almost certainly have beaten Great Oak that day (especially since they were 12 seconds faster at state) and are used to running in worse conditions than the SoCal teams are.
Having said all of that, what Great Oak did without their #1 was awesome and they deserved to go.

Oakdale is 25th in the overall rankings. Teams that did not make make nxn that were faster than Oakdale are as follows: Westfield 24th, Austin Vandegrith 21st, Skyridge 20th, Plainsfield South 19th, Rocky Mountain 16th, Orem 13th.
Great Oak got 17th, that affected how the other california teams did in the overall rankings. If Oakdale wanted to do something about that, they should have went to runninglane to try to beat Skyridge - 20th.

Whatever, dude. You either make NXN or you don't, but rankings based on who "would've won because 'they' beat 'them' at this race..., etc." are lame. It's quantifiable and undebatable - Oakdale is the fastest team out of California to not make NXN (by a fair margin). That clearly makes them "one of the fastest teams".
I don't know anything about the other teams and am not addressing them (I'm sure they're great as well). I'm just saying that you are clueless if you don't think a team that averages below a 15:30 at Woodward isn't fast. You are VERY MUCH cherrypicking data on a bad day for GO to say that one of the best teams in California history is slow. It's ridiculous.
Also, Oakdale finished 2nd at RL the year before so there was no reason to go back especially as some of their team ran Footlocker instead.
AF is gonna spawn right in front of you drinking your delicious lemonade sucking on some herriman and niwot straw. American Spoon is gonna slap you in the face and drop and sh right on your head. Cause you ain't gonna see them comin.
