Pence: Let’s be clear on this point. It wasn't that they asked for a pause. The president specifically asked me and his gaggle of crackpot lawyers asked me to literally reject votes which would have resulted in the issue of being turned over to the house of representatives.
This was their big gambit: Pence rejects the electors that Trump has said were invalid, then neither Trump or Biden have 270 electoral college votes, then the question on the presidency goes to the House where the reps vote en bloc by state and because Republicans controlled a majority of the states (26 to 24, I believe) they thought they could get the House to secure the presidency for him.
When the lawsuits failed and he couldn’t get states to throw out ballots or find fake ones, Trump’s means of holding onto power rested on Pence going rogue on what the Constitution says his role is and creating a Constitutional crisis and hoping that Alito, Thomas and his three newly installed Supreme Court justices would all rule in his favor when the matter would inevitably be brought to them. After all, as Noname has noted here “they” have the Supreme Court, rule of law be damned.
