Pete Maravich set his scoring record in three years as freshmen were not allowed to play varsity basketball back then. Obviously Caitlin has an advantage here as she gets four years.
all true (I would also add there was no shot clock either). but no one else, female OR male, has done what he has done OR what Clark has done. which doesnt make Clarks achievement weak but instead makes Maravichs achievement so extreme as to be beyond comparison. kind of like Wilt averaging 50 points a game for a whole season. doesnt mean the best scorers in the NBA are chumps but just that Wilt was an outlier of the highest order.

Pete Maravich played against competent players. Clark has been playing against collegiate women. A professional woman who is like best ever and is 6'10 can't even dunk. Get this Clark stuff out of here! She sucks.

Caitlin Clark can claim another off-the-court feat: The Big Ten women's basketball tournament has sold out in advance for the first time in the history of the event. The conference announced Friday that it expects a five-day...
So we dont count the Juco points but we should count the Division II pre-NCAA points? 🤔
Im all for combining the record books. Dont get me wrong. What the NCAA pulled not allowing women to play for the NCAA and then not including their statistics in their record book when they took over the AIAW is no better than what MLB did to the Negro League. But at least the MLB finally recognized their statistics. This should be about Clark breaking Woodard's record really. Im glad she spoke out about her getting recognition when she broke Plum's record.
Ncaa guys going straight to nba and ncaa girls staying forever. Admission that NOBOdY watched pro womens sports.
Yeah thats why it took a WNBA player to boost lagging ratings for the NBA All Star game weekend. Ratings peaked Saturday night during her shootout with Curry then dropped after. But keep telling yourself nobody watches womens sports.

People are showing up to watch CC. When she goes off to the WNBA all this hoopla will die down and all the crowds will go away.

She's the Larry Bird of women's basketball. People will continue watching just as they did when Magic and Larry went pro.

The South Carolina - LSU game a few weeks ago drew 1.6 million viewers which was more than the Miami Heat - Boston Celtics NBA game which was playing in the EXACT same time slot. So head to head a women's college basketball game outdrew an NBA game. And not just any NBA game, a rematch of the 2023 Eastern Conference Finals! And no Caitlin Clark in site. Shes been raising all boats. The women's basketball universe is changing. Amazing what happens when you promote their game rather than doing everything to ignore it.

Dale Brown watched all the game film of Pete and said he would have averaged 55 with a three point line. Maybe 60 if there had been a shot clock?
Ive been hearing that recently but I dont think scoring works like that. its not a simple mathematical conversion. Its guesswork at best. Also Maravich avaerged more than 38 shots a game. 38! Can you imagine someone doing that now? Clark takes less than 20. So her efficiency is much higher. Maravich played with four guys who basically gave him the ball on the inbounds and got out of the way. Hannah Steulke, one of Clarks Iowa teammates, recently scored 47 in a game with many of those assisted by Clark.

His father was the coach. Reminds of youth basketball when the star player is the coach's son. It wouldn't happen now.
177 of those pointed were scored in Juco games before she transferred to Francis Marion.

I didn't say we should. NBC Sports did. I was just joking about Coach Hatchell because she coached at my Alma Mater. (272 of her wins were at Francis Marion, and she actually coached Pearl Moore.) She did not win 1000 in Division 1, and I am okay with that. BTW, there is another ACC coach who started their coaching career at Francis Marion. Does anyone know who it is?
With all due respect to Moore and other player ahead, I think Woodard is the real record holder. And Clark is now 56 pts away. She will probably get there in the next two games. After that, the only relevant record left is Kelsy Plum's single season record. Iowa needs to go deep in the tournament for that one.
Grace Beyer has broken the NAIA record, but no one thinks she is the real scoring leader.
