The UNITED STATES does not allow any nation in the Western Hemisphere to choose a government it does not like. The UNITED STATES has invaded and bombed half the world.
Honestly, tell me with a straight face that you can't understand how Russia can look at the last 40 years of American aggression all over the globe and not feel entitled to bully their own neighbor.
The US toppled Ukraine's government. ON TAPE!
If Russia wanted to influence Ukraine through back channel support for the opposition, foment protests, or fiance militia groups opposed to the government then that would be wrong as well but not to the same degree. This invasion is wrong on all levels and Putin is the only villain. No amount of whataboutism is going to change that.
Putin is behaving like the USA behaves. That's not "whataboutism" that's reality.
If you live next to a great power you have to do what that great power wants. It's not fair but it's reality.
The west is jabbing a stick in Russia's eye and then clutching their pearls when Russia reacts.
The is SO upset about Russia's actions they are willing to pay the Ukrainians to die alone.
Once the last drop of Ukrainian blood runs out what then?
The west will shrug its shoulders and go on as if nothing happened.
THAT is just as "evil" as Russia doing what it's doing.
a sovereign nation has every right to determine the direction of their own country and which partnerships it wants to form. Invading a sovereign nation because you disagree with the partnerships they are considering and because of unspecified “corruption” is immoral. This is black and white and their is only one villain in this situation.
I completely agree. The U.S. and Nato need to get out and stay out of other countries permanently.
I'm sensing a momentum shift here. If UKR can get RU on the run and unable to resupply...that will go very well for the forces of good.
Jack Detsch @JackDetsch NEW: U.S. has indications that Ukraine is now "able and willing" to take back territory overtaken by the Russian military: senior U.S. defense official Ukraine's military is now trying to push the Russians out of Izyum, in East Ukraine, and has held Mykolaiv against attack.

Russia has been backing the Donetsk separatists with equipment and some troops for years. There is plenty of Russian meddling in Ukraine over the past two decades.

Uh... the Donetsk separatists only exist because the west toppled Ukraine's government in 2014...
The knuckle dragger meltdown is a beautiful thing. Basement Biden first takes down agent orange by 7M votes and will go down in history as having badly outmaneuvered the most powerful dictator in the world. Putin's "military operation" is so pathetic that small Ukrainian units are starting to take back captured cities.
The US's bad things justify Russia's bad things is not the genius take you think it is....
I didn't say it was justified. I said every nation should be entitled to decide its own future.
I'm saying it's bold faced hypocrisy to pretend you care about Ukraine when you didn't care about Iraq or Libya, or any of the other dozens of countries the US has interfered with in it's own self interest. It is.

Trump tried it, Tucker is using it, and the wingnuts here might as well give it a go too.
this whataboutism has been used by Russia for years and works well on their population. They can dismiss literally anything that Putin wants to do.
US intervention has killed hundreds of thousands of people in the Middle East.
US intervention created the mullahs in Iran, created Saddam Hussein, created Al Qaeda, ISIS...
The US being the world's police is not working out very well for anyone.
Ukraine is NOT the hill to die on and the west has admitted this by refusing to send 1 soldier to help them.
Russia needs to join the west. Alienating and threatening Russia doesn't serve any useful purpose to anyone on the planet but China and the people in the west who profit from war. These people are not your friends.

Putin's resupply plan seems to be pillage and plunder. Not that his decreasing number of generals knew in advance. But, when supplies run short, plundering is what happens. Killing civilians comes as a part of that (defending their own supplies). Rape is a part of that. Putin's pointless war can get a lot more ugly.

Stay tuned for the back peddling and goal post moving by all the fox news wingnuts that have been losing their collective feces about how Biden needs to put US lives at risk and join this war. They might even distract with their tried and true method of gaslighting...
For many years, I volunteered at a retirement home for War Veterans.
One day, I was setting up card game activities.
One old man saw a family with a young girl visiting another resident and began sobbing. Not unusual for these old-timers, but I asked why. He confided when he was serving in Italy in World War 2, he was taking sniper fire. He pinpointed the shooter to a tree and he emptied a clip into it. When he went to check the body which fell out, he saw it was a 12 year old girl, much like the one walking the halls then.
This is the horror of war. Decades later, one day haunted him.
Which is why this is so disturbing. This poster is making the rounds:

There also seems to have been an influx of Russians (loyal to Putin) relocating to those areas in recent years. Moving people into contested areas is an old game played by expansionist countries; notably the U.S. taking over the west (settlers must be protected for savages whose lands were taken), and Israel taking over Palestine lands.
