Will my Cool Running results be available through my new ACTIVE account?
"Unfortunately, historical event results could not be migrated to ACTIVE Results. If you would like to access data previously available on Cool Running, please contact support with the subject line ‘Cool Running Data Request’ and provide an event name, state, and year. We will do our best to provide an archived HTML copy of the results pages that were previously hosted on Cool Running. "
Why are the Cool Running results not on ACTIVE Results?
Each Cool Running event upload featured data in different formats. Trying to force unstructured data into ACTIVE’s structured database would have caused formatting issues, partial data loss and would not provide a consistent experience for participants. Each timer and organizer is welcome to format their results for ACTIVE Results and reupload for free as soon as possible.
Good luck getting results...
Coolrunning was 'the' place to find upcoming races and results in New England. When Active took over and forced their registration service to get a free listing, that was the start of the end. Now you have to scour dozens of registration sites and various race calendar sites to find local races. Results have gone that way too. Race timing companies have gone to posting results only on their platforms as coolrunning became less relevant.
Support has been non-existent for a while now. Posting results started failing frequently. Emails went mostly answered. Should have known something was up when I couldn't edit posted results this year - only 2019 races would be visible.
Loss of the historical results is a real shame. I've done similar efforts for our club - extracting results content from thousands of old static pages into structured data or at least managed content. It's no small effort. I do wish they consider spending some time & money towards either spearheading or initiating a crowd-source effort.
Let this be a lesson learned. I know quite a few races where the results only live on the race timing companies. site.
Coolrunning was once great but became a zombie the day Active bought it. This is just the final bullet to the head.

https://calc.run/The only time I have used cool running was for that stupid calculator.
Excellent, thanks.
I use this open source calculator by the North Brooklyn Runners, i heard the next version is coming out later this month and will have 100s of a second precision. I like it as it gives lap and sub-lap splits too (easier for me to remember 82 second laps than km/hr or min/mile). Works ok on some phones too.
CoolRunning Australia cached many results of the late, great Trans Australia Footrace in 2001.
Cost too much to store all that data. If you want to keep results, you better PRINT them out on PAPER.
You know, like we did in the 80s!!
thank you!!!! no pace calculator works as well as this one
i don't understand how something so simple can be done so incorrectly. theres like 50 of these things and everyone is trying to reinvent on something that already works
i have planned so many race pace hypotheticals on this thing

thank you! this is great. I been trying to find something to replace it.
to be fair the site has been deteriorating for years and I doubt there were that much traffic going into it at this point. nevertheless this is still a sad day for the running community.
Wow. Going to coolrunning Monday morning was practically a ritual for me. The site made it so easy to keep up with New England results. Practically every weekend there was a race I had run at some point. Would always bring back nice memories (except for the really bad races). I even noticed I still have a course record looking at results last year!
Lots of race and club websites just link directly to coolrunning, so that's gone now.
I wonder if New England runner will try to fill this void? I should resubscribe.

Would USATFNE pick up the archives of NE results and keep them as a service to members?
I don't think NE Runner will see the cost-benefit into doing any more extensive result listings than they already do.
The past couple years I've been keeping a webpage of results for the western mass region only. A real simple javascript page with json file of links to the actual results found on other websites and that takes more time than I prefer.
I've been contemplating for some time now standing up a platform to replace coolrunning but the effort seems greater too much to sustain. If I did, I'd probably stick to a results document submission approach to avoid the headaches of trying to normalize results into a database (this is why Active is abandoning coolruning's legacy results). Think of every possible race timing software and local 5k Race Directors spreadsheet in every unimaginable format they mis-manage results in. Even the best idiot-proof front-end will no doubt result in countless emails from RD who cant figure out how to upload results.
Just a link to a text page with results formatted however someone wants to upload them would work.
So what are the big timing companies? Yankee timing, baystate and granite state? I was annoyed when Yankee (I think) stopped posting results to coolrunning, but you had to click through to their website.
Can Letsrun.com buy it back?
I miss all the data, I hope someone backed it up somewhere.
Another old-timey running forum was Mervsrunning.
The message boards are long gone, but they keep their online calculator up...
I just used the calculator this morning. You never know when a website visit may be your last. Makes you appreciate all the good times. RIP.

Coolrunning was the place to be until they bought Kicksports in 2001, which brought along a bunch of non-runners who spammed their message boards to death and disrespected real runners. A little while later Letsrun came along, and real runners started spamming that message board to death, but it didn't die.
Ok, that makes sense. I remember coolrunning back then being really good, then seeing it move to more hobby jogger style, but a decent spot for road race results. The best was mensracing + run-insight. I miss those boards!
If you still want to use their pace calculator, here's the waybackmachine link:

For Connecticut, plattsys.com and hitekracing.com have pretty extensive results archives.
