That's a little harsh, but not seeing Chelimo in Doha is fine with me. The last thing I want to see at the Worlds is 20 Kenyans on the starting line all wearing the singlets of different countries.
Paul Chelimo MISSES worlds qualifying standard, CAN NOT go to Worlds without it
How is that a headline?
If he didn't lose by 53 seconds and the entire field missed qualifying because of windy conditions, that would be one thing.
It just looks like failed to earn a spot to me.

Mark Nenow:
Henry Rono 78 season:

hey, why not organize a letsrun 10k, Q race, and get pacers that have a clue, like some guys to take it to 3k, and a couple of other guys to take it to 5 or 6 k, and the wannabe qualifiers can take it from there. make a deal with some tv outfit for broadcast rights or stream it live in your site.
make track great again.
What about Mo's 26:50 in London in 2017? That race had it all, fast pace, big kick, surges, drama. Sit and kick 10000's really are underwhelming, but sometimes the championships can really produce an incredibly dramatic and intriguing race. Bekele vs Tedese in 2009, Mo vs all of Africa in 2017, Paul Tergat vs Haile in 2000, etc (There's a lot more than just that). The WC this year could line up to produce something really special, why wouldn't we want to see that? Kipruto vs. Gebrhiwet vs The young Ugandans (and maybe a Kamworor looking for redemption after WXC), all of these guys will be looking to become the new king of the 10000 after Mo, and all of them have shown they will go at it HARD and probably make it a really fast and exciting race.
I really hope the 10000 remains a championship event. Sure maybe it doesn't make sense to run a 10000 at every diamond league, or even a 5000 at every one either, but we at least need to have a couple quick 10000s and get these young and incredibly fast runners off the roads and onto the track for the summer becuase it makes for an incredibly entertaining WC or OLY 10000 to have a little hype surrounding the event beforehand.
Also from an anti doping perspective, doesn't it make sense to keep the top young East African's out of obscure road races that may or may not have any good testing and put them on a European Circuit where, not only can fans consistently get to watch intriguing races, but these crazy fast young runners will be subject to more consistent testing? Killing the 5 and 10 seems bad not only because distance fans can't watch good races, but because we send the talent to obscure middle eastern road races with short courses and no testing.
You guys act like there isn't another 10,000m until USATF. There's a 10,000m at the Portland Track Festival next Saturday. Duh.

No, there's not a lot more. There's 1987 in Rome, Munich 1972, that's about it.
A 10,000 turning out fast is a long shot at best, even with pacemakers. So it makes no sense for the competition model to focus on just one event with everyone peaking at the same time at the end of the season. That discourages any other fast races from happening, and limits the sport's exposure and fan interest.
Every race needs to count, and not just by chasing qualifying standards, which the best runners do easily. If every single meet is a title shot, people will have an incentive to watch them all.
Because it's LRC -- it's much easier to complain about the sport, slam one of the best US runners, & feel like you're doing a lot for the sport. You would think someone died the way they covered this 10k. They should have made a bigger deal about a 26:50 in awful conditions and used that to advocate for the 10k to stay but instead they just slam anything and everything without solutions. Set up your own race. Sponsor a race. Pay for pacers. Reach out to the IAAF to ask about pacing. Be journalists. Reach out to the runners. Let's hear from Chelimo about the race. I'm sure there are still things he took away from the race. It doesn't seem like he has done a ton of workouts so maybe the goal was 27:40 and he wants to get to 27ish shape by Worlds. Much easier to complain tho, I understand.

That's "former world class runner." The headline is as illogical as saying "champion loses tournament."

LR should really ban users like this. The dude has been in america for at least ten years and served in the military AND got us a silver medal. What have you done for the country? Where is your family from smh. You are the type of people to say people who go the army are fake americans but then say someone like grant fisher is a real american and praise the ingebrigsten family.

Perhaps he is not the world class athlete you thin h e is right now?
Or that he was.
Its not the conditions that failed him, there were many ahead of him.

Only real American medalist ever. All the others are fakes.
