Have you ever run on an Alter G? Perhaps you don’t understand the terminology. Running at 99% means that you are running at 99% of your body weight. For example if you weigh 140lbs and run at 99% of your body weight you would be running at 138.6lbs. That’s a negligible amount and no “smarter” than running on a normal treadmill. You must be thinking that 99% means that you would be running with 99% less body weight, which in this case would be 1.4lbs and is impossible to do on an Alter G. Hope this helps!
Actually when you run on an Alter G at 99% it keeps you held upright. It's like being locked in or being held with assistance. If you did a workout at 99% on a Alter G it would be way different then running on a regular treadmill. it's not even comparable. Lots of professional running groups use Alter G's for a reason over using treadmills. What AlSal and Rupp are doing is a very smart way to come back without risk of injury.
