I feel like rojo is trolling us with sarcasm. The kid is supposed to be one of the top juniors in the world (and all-time). A 12th place finish is essentially a devastating performance. That said, I'm sure he will beat all 11 guys in track and getting crushed gives him some motivation for the next training block.

No adult native English speaker could have grammar as poor as rojo's. He must be just playing stupid.

I want to congratulate the teen for having the guts to race the world's best. He's a 1500 star and yet he stepped up, gave it his all and finished 12th in an 8k. So let's give him some props for not staying in a hole somewhere and training in obscurity.

Let's hope he keeps coming back. The pros who have never even tried the event are numerous.
Much respect.
https://twitter.com/letsrundotcom/status/1111960062778585088Note: We initially incorrectly stated he was 10th. He was 12th.
Why don’t you send him a message congratulating him?!
He would have been better off "staying in his hole and training" as you put it. It's probably going to take him a couple of weeks to get back to normal again, weeks that he could been putting into training for World Championships. All he accomplished was what we already knew to begin with -- he's a middle distance runner.
While it's not exactly stupidity, there's also no glory in doing what he did -- running himself into the ground over a distance and terrain he's not suited for. If Usain Bolt ran a marathon and collapsed at the end, are you going to give him props for laying it on the line?

It literally says 12th in the graphic they used for the tweet hahaha. Dumbass.
It would have been strange if it figuratively had said he was 12th.
How could they have done it figuratively? I want to know. I'm thinking maybe they could have said he was 10th?
The dilusion and attendant excuses on here is astonishing. The desperate need to uphold a political philosophy of white supremacy by utilising forms of scientific racism is shocking, ie the east Africans supremacy, and themselves as a whole, must be "explained", yet east Africans are some of the first of not the first human beings on the planet as evidence of a strong presence; they can not just be, and be free, in the minds of the unEarthly (or even anti-Earth), anxious, fearful, disconnected racists. It tells you a lot about the mind, disharmony and especially the origin of the racist.
I've said it before-Letsrun can go down because the evidence is here for all to see, and its thick, literally every other post.
I was thoroughly impressed by Ingebrigtsen. He was clearly going for first place and he was clearly fighting for every last position when his body gave out on him. Ya, he got his butt kicked by Mengesha and Worku. But I have zero doubt that it will only fuel his fire and that he will come back even stronger.
It is also worth noting that he was running against guys who devoted an entire training cycle to World XC. They came in peaked, tapered, and with lots of specific training on hills and rougher terrain. As a 1500 specialist, Ingebrigtsen did not have this luxury since indoor track is obviously more important for 1500 runners.
Ballsy race, lots of heart, and a life experience that most of us can only dream of.

If only all runners were willing to jump from indoor track straight to longer races on rough courses.
Jakob needs to get off the treadmill and onto some real CC if he expects to excel at it.
Why not?
yes, congratulations to jakob. he belongs to the best runners in the world.
but there is something to think about. given the fact that his father talked about his training (jakob is running high mileage) and that treshold tests in the last year indicated a half marathon performance of sub 63 (his father believes in a sub 60 in the upcoming future) and also that jakob is a very strong 5k performer. therefore i can't understand why people think this 8k race is not within his range and this result is a one of his finest distance performances. it might be better to congratulate that he finished this race. it was not a good day for him.
Age cheating is rampant b the Africans. World Junior track is even worse. You are correct in pointing this out. It it often pointed out and should never become acceptable practice.
The wrist test is the only way raptors put a stop to those nations NGB’s that orchestrate this form of cheating. Soccer did it, why can’t track and XC?
12th ain’t bad. The highest placed white dude in the men’s senior race was Brett Robinson in 30th place. There was a Swede in 17th but he looked African born
It matters to him placing high here just as much as it does in the local ping pong tournament. Translation: It doesn't.

Waah, mommy! The big men took my medal!
I love how he’s gone from the guy who’ll supposedly obliterate all distance records to a “1500m specialist” just this weekend.
Am I the only one who seen Rojo’s post more of a dig at the US ‘elites’ who chose not to run.
Also is it so hard to appreciate the different mechanics of track running and XC. This idea that it’s only 8k and as a good 5k runner this should be in his wheelhouse. Bollocks, course terrain/profile have far more of an impact than the distance. JI will never be a natural XC runner anyone with one good eye can see that. End of!

I love how he's gone from a budding superstar in the 1500-5000 to someone that needs to excel on a random XC race designed for completely different type of racing/racers to be viable.

I love how you guys want to make all the excuses in the world for a guy who finished 12th in XC. Just accept that he can't win everything. Your hero isn't the best at everything.

I don’t think anyone is knocking the kid. We’re just saying that the performance isn’t worthy of the big congratulations that Rojo is giving. He ran, and did just ok. There’s nothing wrong with that, but there’s also nothing great about it.
