I really don't understand why professional runners would not want to associate with their fans. LRC is one of the only places where your fans stand a chance of being able to relate to you. Sure, you can go speak at big city marathons to crowds of hobby joggers and feel good about your payout and enthralling the masses, but they can't relate to you. Come on these boards and you have people who can relate to you. The difference is you're better than them, which means some appreciate your success and others are jealous of it. But why be afraid to hang out with the fanbase who stands a better chance of relating to you?
I think that's why as a community LRC is so salty about elite athletes avoiding engagement with LRC types. It's as if the elite athletes are specifically afraid of interacting with knowledgeable runners. For example, Cam, I'm really curious about your diagnosis of exercise-induced asthma, when that came along, who pushed for the diagnosis, and how much you were running at the time. I'm also curious if you are still being treated for it and what you think of the diagnosis. But maybe you don't like being asked real questions.
We were all shocked to learn this week that Bekele has no clue how to train for the marathon or else is too lazy to train for it. Either way, Hermens made it pretty clear that Bekele is lost without coaching. Cam, if you don't care about running beyond doing what an athletic coach tells you to do, then I get why you don't care to engage with other runners. But maybe you do love the ins and outs of running and, if so, you would always have a community here.

I would love to hear details about his training leading up to this race. What went right, what went wrong, what would he do different if anything? What his thoughts are on the most important type of training (long run, repeats, 20x400, crossfit)?
+10000000
That's what I'd like to know as well!
Engaging with your fans via a message board is pretty f-ing stupid.

Why? How else would they do it? An AMA on Reddit? A tweet? Youtube vlogs?
It's all the same thing.
It's stupid in a way that the best runners can't read.

Most pros read these boards and I'm sure a significant number post here as well. To think that they're non-dimensional and "above" engaging with others here is absurd.
By this, I’m assuming you mean most American pros?
Bumping for Cam to do his Canadian civic duties and be a nice and polite guy and answer the questions in this thread!
lol who cares about Cam Levins
Great job for Cam getting the Canadian Record.
Didn't like the Brojo write up saying "Reid Coolsaet ......took the high road". What was Reid supposed to say, that he was NOT full of praise for Cam breaking the record.
Good job trying to sizzle some Grade Z marathon beef..

I'm guessing he thinks it's not safe to go back on LetsRun because of this thread.

Reid did say that it would have bothered him a bit if Cam had waltzed in a few years back while Reid himself was coming oh so close several times.
It has nothing to do with actually being angry with the guy but just the circumstance.
Reid's quote: "Had someone broken it a few years ago when I was really close it would have been a tough pill to swallow. But knowing Cam’s talent and training volume I thought he had a good chance to do it. If not in his debut then probably the next race. And given that I wasn’t even in close to great shape there was nothing I could do about it."
