So when Gwen runs a decent 10k, it means nothing for her marathon potential. But when Molly does, it's sub-2:20? Come on, man.
this thread is about Molly, not your gf Gwen.[/quote]

Yes. Molly and I have basically identical PRs except distances 3k and below (where I am faster). So I assume she would feel in training and recovery much as I would have. Bonus she is a professional runner while I worked full time and trained as much as I was motivated.
Why is this controversial? Running a 10k a full 90sec off a PR over 60 days after a marathon isn’t a big deal. Nothing special about it other than the last mile, which also isn’t a big deal for someone like Molly off a slow pace.
Yes, because it is Molly.

what don't you understand???
why are you mentioning a rookie, and someone who is trying to learn how to run a marathon. You have to be kidding me.
Molly earned her stripes over a decade of elite running.
that's like talking about a semi-pro basketball player when talking about lebron and Durant.
Please stop it.

I'm a guy, so the biggest titles I won were local road races. I worked full time and trained as hard as I felt like.
Molly is a better runner than me, and on any given Sunday I could have gone out and run 2:50 for a marathon. Then Tuesday showed up on the track and ran exactly what she did last night as a workout. It would have been a nice, solid workout. I wouldn't have needed 66 days of recovery between the two.
So tell me, how is what Molly did anything other than a workout for her? Are workouts impressive?
Sure you think you could run a 2:50 marathon on any given Sunday but what you mean is IF... you’re feeling okay and the conditions aren’t extreme, you should be able to run a 2:50, most of the time.

After how many days would this just be another impressive track race?
She's had plenty of time to recover.
Bill Rodgers once won NYC and Fukuoka in the same year.
Today's runners are so soft that what used to be normal looks like extraordinary.
