Her ceiling is basically Bolt. She has the potential to be the only true global superstar in track and field for the next generation.

not necissarily.shes still only a teen phenom, and usually they end up overtraining, getting badly injured, and being forced out of the sport by their early 20s,if not earlier.too much too soon.
Doubtful. She is not a distance runner.
She's absolutely gorgeous. I'm guessing she'll get plenty of money.

I give her $ 250 K a year - 4 year deal with bonuses!
She aint getting that. 1st year she will have to prove her self. I can see her getting around 125,000 plus incentives. That's a good start for an 18 year old.
Com eon. Some one like underarmor will pay her that just for photos
She will clean up all the soap ads.

This is one of the reasons track and field is dying.
Guys who don't understand marketing.

Exactly.
Sponsors only sponsor when they get a return. Everyone will want to watch her raising a sweat.
she will make "Suzy" money. Unfortunately whoever broadcasts the next WC or OG will build the entire thing around her. She will have to deal with the just as talented butterfaces getting jealous or her money and exposure and will have to deal with the media expecting only gold or failure storylines around her until she retires.

I'm not saying that she will not get that over time, but I don't see nike handing out a quarter of a million dollars to Syd. She is a beast, no doubt about it. I could see 125,000- 150,000 the first year and increasing over the years.
How much did Christian Coleman get? Dude was on the champion stage at USAs and WC in his first pro year. He was already world wide as a sprinter, and I don't think nike gave him a quarter of a million.
Syd is not known world wide like that.
Who says she will sign with the Nike plantation?
She will soon be very well known world wide when she dominates Diamond League races this season.
You mean losing to Ronnie Baker?
One and done college .
FTR - I said 250 base plus whatever

After further research, I think it is going to be way more than that. Degrasse got 11-30 million coming out of USC from Puma. I think they looked at him as the person to take over the mantel from Bolt.
Considering Kendra went to Kentucky, and most of the top american women Hurdlers are signed with Adidas, I wouldn't be surprised if Syd signs with Adidas
Manning - hurdles
Nelvis - hurdles
Kendra- hurdles
Noah Lyles
Tori Bowie

Glad you're coming around on salaries.
She'll sign a seven year deal at $15-20mill + pretty bells and loud whistles.
She'll become the biggest female athlete on Planet Earth.
The future is Sydney McLaughlin.

I don't like NFL &/or NBA forcing lads to attend college for a year if they do not want to attend college. I also do not like individual athletes treating NCAA as a one year minor league. If Sydney McLaughlin's goal was to be a pro track athlete, why didn't she go pro straight out of high school as did Ajee Wilson, Kobe Bryant, Vashti Cunningham, Phil Housley and Lebron James?
First off, NOBODY jumps to the NFL straight out of high school. The NBA is realizing the one-year rule isn't working and is trying to make the D-League more of a professional alternative for athletes who don't want to go the college route. McLaughlin going to college was a smart move. Don't forget, even for great high school athletes many if not most don't become superstars even at the college level. Also, if an athlete turns pro after high school, THERE IS NO GOING BACK. If McLaughlin had turned pro right out of high school and struggled with the transition she would be stuck. Going to college eased the transition for her. She ran well and appeared more than ready for the next level. If she did not run well, then she could stay in college. There's a few (and only a few) athletes who've prospered as pros out of high school, but most of them fail. Mary Cain, Lenny Cooke, Kwame Brown, Darius Miles, Sebastian Telfair, Leon Smith, Jonathan Bender, Eddie Curry, etc. Even Kobe was a backup his first year. It's a huge mental and physical adjustment that few high schoolers are ready for.

I didn't say it hurts athletes to do a one and done, NCAA. It would not have hurt: Phil Housley, Kobe Bryant or Lebron James. The more I think about it, the more I like the MLB model. If an athlete thinks he is good enough to play major league baseball out of high school, go for it. If an athlete thinks college ball is better, go to college. No one makes a shame of college baseball. A young man is not allowed play MLB until four years after high school graduation if one decides to play college baseball. The MLB model would work fine for T&F.
The thing about MLB, though is that nobody jumps directly to MLB straight out of high school and is successful. Pretty much everybody, including eventual superstars, requires a few years of minor league/college ball. The gulf in talent/skill level between high school ball and MLB is huge. And baseball is a very technical sport. Athletics is a much less technical sport overall. Athletes in the sprint events tend to peak in their early '20s so. Spending 4 years in college would mean wasting some of their best years. And what about athletes who don't want to go to college? There is no track minor league and no club system in the U.S.
Thoughts on Irby? Another true freshman. Should she stay at Georgia or go pro, if you were her?
Are you seriously comparing Christian Coleman to syd.. HAHA!! You’ve got to be kidding me. The Track and field world is drooling over McLaughlin, Coleman is fast, but not even the fastest in his country and not a household name. Syd will spread like wildfire and will eventually be the female bolt, Felix never quite reached that notoriety though she definitely has a following.. one similar to shalane... so that average runner clearly gets it, Scorpion needs to do more research

The short UK promo video for Sydney was tweeted by Flotrack and so far has 1.53 million views. Yes, that is 1.53 MILLION views. Maybe someone is pumping up the views with a bot because the tweet only has 35K likes and 8.1K retweets but those are still good numbers.
She already has a huge social media presence, much more than a lot of pros.
