Not sure why nobody is talking about this, but it was announced a few days ago that due to construction at Hayward Field, Oregon will no longer be hosting NCAAs in 2019 and 2020. Does this mean it heads back to Des Moines? Who is likely to win the bid?
Ken Goe story adds some pertinent detail.
By backing out of hosting in 2019, Oregon voided its contract with the NCAA from 2019 through 2021.
The NCAA is re-opening the bidding on the 2019 and 2020 meets at this time with no decision made on 2021 yet.
Oregon is re-bidding to host NCAAs in 2020 because they believe track will be ready by then.
So, this could turn out to be just a one year interruption in UO's hosting. Or things could go entirely the other way, with 2018 being the last time the meet is in UO for an indefinite time to come.
