I can relate to this. My 1500 is much better than my mile and their temptation is real to just answer my mile time at a conversion. I try not to but sometimes I don't catch myself. Not something I want to do, just my pride getting in the way. Like previous said, to the general public the difference is negligible anyway.
That's fair enough. If someone asked my mile pr I'd do that but explain it was off 1500m but have never run a track mile. I have a road mile 10 seconds faster but don't use that as it was downhill!
A girl at my running club asked me thought I'd run for my country because I'd run a minute faster over 5km than everyone at the club (when I was younger). I pointed out even if I was a minute faster I'd be unlikely to get a vest!
We once had some guy turn up to our track team. He was a sprinter looked like a cool Carl Lewis and had the shades chain and everything. My suspicions were raised when he mentioned running 8xx for 3000m in training to match his sprinting prowess
They took his bs though and put him on the 400m relay. We were watching his leg and my team mate (a 8:44 steeplechaser) turned to me and said "he's jogging" !
