25k? That's more than 15 miles. Nobody from RW can run that far in 35 minutes.

Because many Letsrunners don't want to admit that's what they are.

If you love the sport, you would be supportive of people who want to start running. Otherwise running will just be like racquetball or even worse. It needs this constant influx otherwise there's no money for new shoes, races, etc.
By the way, I convinced a very overweight friend to start running 3 years ago. His first race he ran a 1:21 10k. Fast foward to today and he just broke 40 minutes and he is 47.
So yeah, don't be a douche. Grow up.
E-zackly. I have to believe that most LRC posters who rag on recreational runners by using the disparaging term "hobby joggers" are either in middle school or have serious self-esteem issues.
I don't like the political hacks that pollute this board, but in general I appreciate the harshness here. I don't want anyone to give me a hug just because I ran 10k. It's true that the term hobby jogger is not very meaningful literally speaking, but there still is a difference between people who try to race say a marathon and those who try to finish it. I don't want the latter to pollute this board, there are already enough places for those. Whether racing means 2:20, 2:40, 3:00 or 3:30 depends on so many individual factors in addition to effort, it's really the attitude that matters to me.

I agree. I did Big Sur Marathon earlier this year and people were asking if I stopped and took pictures. The hell?!! I'm not fast by LRC standards but I'm sure as hell not stopping for selfies. I run every mile as hard as I can based on my ability. Every lost minute haunts me.
"When Did Running Get So Rad?" Dafuq did I just read? RunnersWorld is a joke.

Correct. The haters, baiters & trolls DO pollute this board. I'd readily trade that immature element for a few RW migrants who might be slow, but respectful toward others who love this sport.
You get a - 1 from me and it ought to be -10If you are running your way, what in sam hell does it matter how others run?Their attitude should not matter because it is not yours.

C25k is the couch to 5k program. But I sense someone with your rhetoric would not know how valuable that is.Rich kid logic.$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$If I flash enough of these on the screen, will it make more sense what C25K is?

So you are saying c25k is some code like You are a c u next tuesday and the 2 actually means two rather than part of 25?
Them pulling the plug on the forums is like when our local news stopped user comments and went FB. Viewership plummeted.
No. Just no.Go back to sleep.

Runners World Online Forums is being shut down.
You might want to read up on the C25K program - there will soon be a lot of people on here looking for advice on how to break 35 minutes.
Break 35 minutes? Lol. How about people looking to break 45, 55, 65+ minutes.

My 60 year old mother ran 31 in her first 5k. Are you kidding?
I'm here from RW, all 215 pounds of me. Isn't the Galloway system great? Why do I need to be an ol' poopy bag of bones to run faster? Do I look fat in my new Tracksmith shorts?
Here is the long and short of it.No, those who read RW and posted on their forum may or may not be the fastest. No, those who like the supportive words of RW may just need that inspiration to have them try their first race or to continue trying.Great. Let's get them out there trying. Why?The truth is if any new runner who wished to race had started here, that runner would have pitched themselves off a cliff or drunk bleach before they got to the starting line. Many of you should be ashamed of yourselves. I do not have to tell you why. You already know. And, I repeat, none of you that do this are good enough for that attitude.

See. This is why I love LRC. It's the over the top faux outrage and trolling like this.
Gets people riled up.
Great! And you know what important facet is missing here?Running!Oh yeah, I am sorry, did I step into the world of the beer drinking, pizza eating, blacklight rooming hippified middle-agers?Grow up, people. Grow. Up.
Good Lord, it's started already.
The first article on the LetsRun main page is a buyer's guide to fanny packs.

Unless the someone actually competes against elites and is still currently a paid athlete, then we are all hobby joggers, regardless of times. Because in someones elses eyes, we aren’t fast enough and gets beat at races.
So it appears they are already here. I always see people seeking advice to get faster, critique my times etc.. on this site. So no matter how fast people claim to be, they will always look for a way to become a better runner.
Not this again. Thanks dad. Hobby jogger is not a literal term.
