Half marathon as a big event is a fairly recent development. That distance has really exploded in the past 15-20 years. Basically because hobby joggers like to get the finisher medal/hoopla of a full marathon with only half the effort. And they like the word "marathon" in the race title, even when preceded by "half".
Some of the old half marathon records were pretty weak for a long time just because it wasn't run that often and not by the best runners until more recently.
Recent development? What do you mean by "recent"? I remember they used to be all over the place in Latin America, San Blas in Coamo Puerto Rico being probably the most famous won by guys like Lasse Viren, Myrus Yifter, Henry Rono, Khalid Kannouchi etc.
Why exactly are you nerds arguing if he is going for AR? He isn't, hes going to do a tune up run for Chicago obviously, i doubt hes out to shatter the 20km or course record. He's legit going to race/ win and tune up for chi town.

You suck Track Bot.
Artificial Unitelligence, more like.
I hope you were programmed to have feelings, T.B. And I hope you are deeply ashamed of yourself right now.

Exactly
Chicago is where the big paycheck is at
There's to much on the line for him to be worried about New Haven
He wants that W in Chicago and would easily make 6 figs from it
AlSal bringing his crew in for the New Haven Road Race (also Hasay). Hopefully a better result than his last race in CT on Thanksgiving. I personally saw Rupp succumb to an "asthma event" keeled over at the finish line grasping for any free O2.

We turned this into the official thread. We've added a poll t the front page so go there and vote. Race starts at 8:30 am ET.
Here is an article on Hasay from Hartford Courant:

So according to this article, Sisson is no longer racing.
Anddddd they're off! Rupp taking it nice and easy so far.
Anyone have... ergh... the radio stream?
Would love to see how close to 56 they can get!
Why can't one of these farts with the telescopic cameras just provide a live stream rather than take photos that will never see the light of day ???
Why did Rupp just take off solo? Looks like he's going to hammer about a 4:25 mile?
I read both articles on the front page, and the USATF press release. I had no idea when the race started until page 3 of a letsrun thread. Good grief!
No kick left in the marathon legs. Gotta go now
Can someone give us some updates on splits?
Mile 4 in 19:53, Rupp still in main pack.
Through mile 5. Rupp with leaders and Korir. Bibs are 1, 3, 26. Another dude in Army gear.
Here we go.... wrote:

Hmmm... That's 61:HI pace. No AR today. That was to be assumed with Chicago coming up though. Let's go, Galen!
