Wow!!!!
Brazier broke a 50 year old record and it won't even last a year

Don't worry, Brazier will run faster than Korir in the end. Korir is older than Boris Berian by a year or two. The usual suspects to choose to ignore this.

Kipketer allegedly split 52.3/50.5 in a 1:42.8 in Monaco 97
Who started that bs story about Kipketer? Calculo? Reverse his splits and you have what he really ran.
Korir is good but wrote:

IAAF doesn't even list his age, so the Kenyan Federation will claim he's 18. Or maybe they'll do the same thing they did with Ereng and claim he's 21. Then like Ereng he'll taper off because he's really 29 as Ereng was in Seoul. : o
Well, he's certainly no teen like Berian was. And he's definitely older than the USA's top three good 800 men:

He's great. And he'll burn out quick. He's maybe a couple of years younger than Rudisha. He'll be gone many years before Brazier even thinks about retiring to spend more time at home with the wife and kids.

I dunno, man. Looks young enough to me. From just those pics, I could believe he's anywhere from 18-25.
Just stop with the stuff about his age, most Kenyans born after the 70s have birth certificates and virtually all born in the nineties know the exact day they were born. If someone decides to deliberately mislead, that's something else. But there would be school records and authenticated national documents required for him to get into uni in the US.
The fact is, we have here a young US-trained talent that likely has reached his full potential unlike his American peers.

Don't forget Rudisha's 1:43.35 from just last year ...

Douglas Burke ... Anybody: Do we have the UTEP 400m split for either Manny Korrir or Michael Saruni?
- Surprised that they ran a 3:14 w/strong 400m performances by 4 of their athletes last week at UTEP.

Much easier for him to make the 400m team. He's ranked #1 in the 400m.
- Absoultely!

- He will jog a 1:43 this weekend ...
- There will be "weeping and gnashing of teeth" between Ereng and UTEP's Head Coach on Manny's "Way Ahead"
- He will set the NCAA record at the championship .... and shut it down the last 10 meters ... saving his "A" game for a meet that pays
- Ereng will immediately fly to Kenya the day after the NCAAs to recruit another fellow Rift Valley tribesmen from one of his "non-profit foundations."
- Manny goes pro ... signed by Michael Johnson & becomes a sprinter for the Kenyan national team ... thus getting beyond the typical Kenyan track governance bs ... plus, MJ knows Manny's good for a number of years since he's willing to train for the longer events ... unlike Jeremy Wariner. Hell, the guy ran a couple of 33 minute efforts in XC last fall.
- Manny medals in London at 400 meters & runs on Kenya 4x400 ... he won't do 800 given the schedule.
- Manny buys a farm for his family & returns to WACO in late-fall to MJ.
UTEP...
Great run for Korir. He will definitely be a name to watch but can we stop with the Freshman stuff. He is not what one thinks of as a Freshman.
He is listed at 21 which is remarkable and maybe only a couple of years off. It's remarkable, given most Kenyans are listed younger then 21 when they come in as Freshman in the NCAA. Still, Korir is probably older than 21.
UTEP, and the coach there are making a mockery of the NCAA by loading their team with Kenyan athletes that the coach sources from his village in Kenya. I wonder how much time and money is spent recruiting anywhere else? I wonder about the money... the money in Kenya, how much is spent on domestic athletes, how much recruiting dollars are spent flying to the Rift Valley.
UTEP is a state funded school. All involved in this lopsided misallocation of funds should be looked into.
A true 18 or 19 year old domestic Freshmen doesn't stand a chance against plucking world beaters from Africa. Once in a long while a domestic kid like Brazier can compete against someone like Korir being that good that young gets the attention of business.
Other continents' athletes provide somewhat a chance to compete and improve against. Europe and Australia have legitimate birth certification and usually are 1to 2 years older than a domestic Freshman.
Tough being a domestic Freshman in NCAA track and field/XC.
Where were you when I needed you last week? Hopefully, someone looks into a potential conflict of interest! :

Rudisha gets a by to the worlds but still, making the Kenyan team with Rotich, Kipketer, Kitilit, Kipkoech, Bett, Tarbei and whichever new kids decide to break out this year, would be a tough ask.

- That's what we're saying .... UTEP Coach Laaksonen has a serious decision point before moving into Conference USA finals ... is Manny a sprinter or middle distance runner? He'll be taking heat from Coach Ereng on keeping him at 800 since that's what he was recruited for ... way more opportuntiy for points in 200/400 & relays. Coach Laaksonen is in a "What's best for team versus Manny verus Ereng?"

52.6 / 51.1 or 1.5s -ve split
formula i use to convert to 2s +ve split assuming even pace both laps is :
( 2nd lap - 1st - 2 ) * ( 1/3 )
-> ( - 1.5 - 2 ) * ( 1/3 ) = - 1.2s
his run with 2s + ve splits woud -> 1'43.7 - 1.2
=
1'42.5
& if he was speeding up in last 200 & therefore not even pace, we are talking 1'42-low
apparently pacer was supposed to go 49+, so this 52-low rubbish didn't help, especially when Kid has 44+ speed to burn !!!
