Kenya definitely needed him in the Bahamas tonight:
you are confusing his bronze in the final with 44.24 with his semi when he ran 44.18 to finish behind Quincey's 43.71
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_cc5Ihkzmche clearly had to run too fast in that semi, otherwise he wouda been looking at 44-flat in the final if not forced to have run so fast in semi
again far too fast a prelim
in the semi
there is the race above & wiki results here :

You don't just run 1 second faster in a 400m by wanting it a little harder
that is ungenerous
he has a 45-mid pb run in early season off no speedwork & that is genuine as he has never run indoors & therefore no need for speedwork in march/april
he says he doesn't like doing 400s in mid-season as upsets his 800 rhythm
i seriously doubt anyone doesn't believe he wasn't in at worst 44-high shape in '12
he did break 500WR last year on a synthetic surface on a road where he seems to have passed a 400 line in ~ 44.6
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dML03QlrwyUyes it's not a 400m oval but he had some serious 400 speed even last year !!!
Your dogmatic logic claims that if you run too fast in the heats then it impacts your ability to maximize your potential later in the Finals. Plenty of folks have PR'd in both heats and finals. I don't understand this premise.
Faster than Rudisha! wrote:Altitude converter still puts him right around 45 flat, just under in this case. Aided yes, less impressive, by no means.

mureika, the producer of that calculator plainly admits it is based only on physics & no account whatsoever taken of the hypoxia hurting the aerobic metabolism
that calculator pushes out 44.67 to 44.97
you then have to guestimate how much the hypoxia hurt them & i reckon that quickens it to maybe about
44.7-mid/44.8-flat.
it is comfortably a 44-high run at sea-level but far more importantly, the kid is on a huge improvement curve as 1st serious few months of training !!!

go see butch reynolds
in his peak year of '88, the fastest he ever ran after rounds was twice a 43.93 to win trials & then same clocking for olympic silver
his fastest 1-off, fully rested was 43.29 !!!
Interesting ... I'm tracking the following perspective from Butch in 1988 ... it had nothing to do with "shutting it down" in the prelims to allegedly save it for the finals:
He lost the 1988 Olympic 400 final because he felt no urgency at the start. "After the world record, I thought I didn't have to be at my best to win," he said.
http://www.cleveland.com/livingston/index.ssf/2010/07/post_5.html
statistically, the kid coud make some history if he stays healthy/uninjured next coupla years considering he's only been training seriously for a few months
( no clocking apart from a 1'46.94 from last year in nairobi & no other mention of clockings or races from '16 )
only 3, 1'44 or quicker guys have ever clocked 44+ that i know of :
- el caballo with 44.26/1'43.44
- everett with 44.59/1'43.20 albeit 6y apart
- big harald with 44.93 / 1'44.83 ( ran 44.93/1'44.84 in '79 )
if anyone knows any other, please list them
i certainly see the kid running quicker than 1'44.8 this year as he has huge upswing of his learning curve to go & even ran x-country which few 400 guys woud ever do & his coach is trying to mould him into a 800 guy & of course, he already has been a WR holder breaking a ~ 20y 600i WR
certainly, if he has any 1/2-decent endurance for 800 he shoud aim for 1'43+ this year to join the top 2
whether he becomes the first man to run 44+ / 1'42+ may be a small career goal for him in next coupla years...

that had no bearing in trials where he did run flat-out in final as chasing then 43.86WR & coud only manage 43.93 after rounds
you think he gave up a chance to break the WR in the trials ???
no, it's because he coud run no faster than 43.93 after rounds at that point in his year
few weeks later when fully rested in a 1-off, he ran 43.29 in zurich

You're a prized plum. You think the World's Best 800m ever does 'no speedwork'? Yes it's off season so he may not be doing the super fast stuff but he doesn't just sit around plodding for 6 weeks. Get a clue.

I can't even remember the last time a Kenyan broke 45. Kenyan records stands at 44.18 from 1992. This is ridiculous though, it's hard to tell what event he should actually be running at this point. I doubt he could beat Fred Kerley but he should definitely be running at Worlds for Kenya in this event.
Alphas Kishoyian has been running under 45 the last two years, making top 30 in the world in 2015 and 2016.
Kitur's 44.18 was run in the semi that was won by Watts.
Jesus, how f'ing annoying is calculo/ventolin?
I happen to agree that Rudisha's 400 pr is weak since he only races the distance early in the season (April/May) and not when he's peaked and sharp in August/September.

OK, I understand now. Thank you .... good post. Learned something.
Honorable mention are 47 second 400 IH's David Patrick and Brandon Johnson.
It's amazing how short sighted most people are on this board. Kid shows crazy speed for 400 while his primary event is 800. Everyone thinks he should switch to make the World Champs this year. I bet the plan might be to actually develop and become a dominant 800 runner which the 400 speed will undoubtedly help.
- Kenya's normally not competitive at the 400m compared to the 800m ... thus competing at 400m gives him a better shot at making their team. Nothing else to read into on this one .....
he is def in first place (no pacers mind you) but in a close second is retardo canova, but at the moment he is mind weak. once he is mind strong he will overtake vent as most annoying. this will cause vent to use hypothetical PED's and run in lane 2 with terrible pacing while fighting the flu.
he will call everyone morons and drivel, and claim he would have beaten retardo. then retardo will one up him claiming that vent was in fact in WR shape. LR will then have a system overload and the brojos will have a black page with them space docking each other, and jamin will finally get laid.
