Yea, considering he's 23 years old... who cares about a collegiate record? He's now in the prime years of his life. Time to be chasing more than that.
El G was setting world records at 23
Bekele was setting world records at 22-23
Rudisha was setting world records at 22
and so on...
I feel like we DOPE our top runners too LITTLE in the collegiate system.
Fixed.

I think the Kenyan national record is infinitely more impressive than the NCAA record.

Can he make the Kenyan WC team this year?
What really makes Ches' performance impressive is the fact that he is probably more like a Kennedy or a Hall type. Ches has amazing endurance, as evidenced by winning NCAA cross as a freshman.
Trackbot! Please show comparable 3000 and 5000 times to a 3:52.02 mile.

VDOT for 3:52 1mi: 79.5
Equivalent race times based on VDOT:
Marathon: 02:08:15
Half marathon: 01:01:12
15K: 00:42:37
10K: 00:27:49
5K: 00:13:22
3Mi: 00:12:52
2Mi: 00:08:17
3200m: 00:08:14
3K: 00:07:40
1Mi: 00:03:53
1600m: 00:03:51
1500m: 00:03:35
I am a bot. Info: habs.sdf.org/trackbot
So, Ches's 3:52 1mi is equivalent to a 3:53 1mi.
Good to know.
He may not be able to compete for them if he's in his citizenship waiting period
BTW: Merber 6th all time indoor US miler... Gregorek 9th.
Andy Powell is a great coach

Was going to say that Cheserek is most likely still in the process of switching citizenship to the US. A few things that some people on here would love are in that article as well, such as calling him "America's most dominant distance runner" or something of the like and speculating for a sentence or two on his age.

And now that the IAAF is putting a stop of transferring nations he might become a US citizen and not be able to compete for the USA

Wow, he went all out and could beat Merber by only .2 seconds??
How overrated!!
I mean even the marathoner Rupp ran 3:50.

Funny. Fastest mile ever by a Collegian (indoor/out). Kenyan indoor record.
...and that's not good enough for you...

Well Ches ran 336 @ Age 20. His time today is a 335-335 equivalent on an indoor track with good but not great competition. In a big time race on an outdoor track we could see sub 350. Also worth mentioning the race was not well paced.
55.7 @ 400 does a world of hurt on your legs when your are just trying to runs 57high or 58 a quarter.
I think the pacing was a factor about this race that was massively understated. a 55 first lap is not ideal at all for running a PR. I see sub 3:50 easily with better competition. Remember also, that the mile isn't even his main event (remind you of anyone).

Coe/IAAF said those petitions in the works will not be impacted by the new policy.
"Galen the marathoner" is the fastest American born runner indoors ever over 1mile 2miles and 3.1 miles so that's no small feet.
Galen had better pacing (3 pacers not one) for his record attempt and he didn't have a premier meet like NCaas two weeks on the horizon.
352 is a long way from 350, but we've never had a collegian run this fast
Ches is ahead of College Galen
Galen 149, 357, 749, 1318, 2743
Ches 149(high school) 352, 740, 1318
