Theory #26
It's the most affordable way to get medical coverage for a family of four.
Does anyone know if his wife or children have a preexisting medical condition? That would bolster this theory.
Free healthcare and paying off student loans....that's a big motivator. Plus basically free or nearly free masters degree......

Maybe he had always had it in mind, and decided to do it.

Donald Trump will send Josh McDougal straight to the battle field come January He'll be on the front line against ISIS. It's all apart of Trumps plan to eliminate them
He may have enlisted because he's like 32 years old and may not have been able to get an age waiver to be an officer. Also if he went National Guard or reserves I'd imagine the lifestyle issue of being a grownup surrounded by 18 year old shitheads wouldn't be as bad.

Thank you for this. It bolsters my claim that the military is the biggest welfare scheme in the world. You get a bunch of free stuff for pretending to be a important.
The military should be unpaid. Volunteering and receiving free stuff isn't volunteering... It's called welfare.

Wonder if he can break 10 for the 2 mile PFT? Fastest I ever saw anyone run it was 10:15 from a kid that had just come off spring track and straight to basic training.
I ran 10:47 on a dirt track with mud puddles in boots. I probably could have run I0:15 in flats and there were faster guys than me.

That's a dumb statement!
The soldiers who fought in continental army against the British got paid; the Roman army soldiers got paid. Because you joined the Army, does not mean you don't have bills and don't need for money. What are you supposed to do if you have a family, a house and car, etc. Even if you join the Peace Corp you receive a stipend. It's not like you are volunteering for Habit for Humanity to help build a house on the weekend or coach a youth club, where you still have a full time job.
In terms of pretending to be important, the history of the world and nation-states is shaped by wars and the people who fought and died in those wars. Unfortunately, the world today is no different. The day America does not have a military, is the day we will cease to exist...unless you think we don't have adversaries.

And if you finish in 12:00 you're 1:00 ahead of everyone else. I can count on three fingers the number of guys who ran in the 11s on any APFT I've taken.

I don't know what units you served in, but I ran in the low 11s on every APFT and I didn't always win. When I ran 10:47 (in boots), it was in IOBC and I was only a month removed from competing as a college athlete. My ranger school class had a guy who had 3:45 1500m PR. Albeit he wasn't in that type of shape when I met him, but I ran 11 flat and he finish about a minute ahead on me. Next month I will be at the All American Marathon in Fayetteville NC. Most of runners are from Fort Bragg; look at the results and tell me all of those sub-3 marathoners and 17 minute 5k guys can't under 12 minutes in a 2-mile.
With all that said, I had a brief aviation unit assignment and most of those guys could run 12 minutes but they were mostly in their 30s and weren't doing PT every morning and didn't go to the field.
That's cool that an old man at 32 can still be a part of the Conventional government services outfits.
He has recent photos on facebook of him doing a biathlon skiing race wearing a winter camo bodysuit. Maybe he's going to do some sort of elite athlete thing?
1st Responder pay is pretty good theses days.
Dont be a dink man she is a mother of 4 and a wife to a now solider in the US Army. He even went hard on the MOS 11B is bottom of the scale for requirements.
Dude. Don't be a jerk. I am told she is smart. That she is like a marketing Director for corporate health care in like two states. .. think she makes her own money.
His friend said McDougal always wanted to join the National Guard. Bet he will try to become an officer.
