He definitely ran faster in the second half to break Kipsiro, however it's looking from GPS tracks coming in that a section of the measured course between 12 and 13 miles was missed, so there will be no Scottish record for Hawkins. More like a 61 min run - still a good effort but not exactly knocking on the door of sub 60.
Strange one this, the organisers are now affirming that everything's legit.

After a few questions about the route today we can advise that it was measured by an IAAF certified course measurer and we were issued with a certificate to confirm accuracy. The elite split times were entirely in line with what would have been expected per mile. Unfortunately there was a mistake in a course map that was issued which led to some confusion. Congratulations to everyone who took part today!
