Solid post. Can you point to the Toni Reavis article that you referenced?
https://tonireavis.com/2013/09/27/pro-runner-david-torrence-dont-blame-elite-athletes-for-state-of-the-sport/In the above, Torrence says:
David Torrence:
Am I an international phenomenon? Am I a national hero? Do people even recognize me on the trails in my own CITY where I train and live 6months out of the year? No, no, and no.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this a major part of his switch to Peru. This 30 year old craves fame and attention and he's going to Peru to become their national running hero. David Torrence has no base. Does Lagat?
Lagat came here to University. There his WSU coach James Li mentored and guided him. There he met his wife Gladys. Twenty years later and James Li still coaches Bernard Lagat. Li is now going into his 15th year as head coach at Arizona. Li and Lagat are training in Europe right now. Twenty years with his collegiate coach, a coach with accolades that had him beside Vigil at the US Summit early this year.
I am dumbfounded by Torrence's allegations. He, DT, is a shape-shifter of every kind. Bouncing around coaches and now countries. He trained with a group for 2 years and they were raided...but he escapes as an informant? Most informants are informants because there is something criminal in their jackets and this is why they "turn". He has the audacity to compare himself going to Peru with Bernard Lagat going to America, and then dig up a decade old headline that included a lawsuit.
If nothing else...the spotlight is now being so cast on David Torrence, that anything he's trying to bury will be searched for with greater intensity.
