Hi Marlon.
This.
Doubler: Keep up the good data analysis work!
He is wearing a gps watch in his race pictures. Why hasn't he shown the data to London officials?

regretfully curious wrote:Wait. Now I'm confused. Why are you pushing for him to be reinstated? Looks like those are impossible splits and stats to reconcile, except if he cut the course.
that split is calculated based on him starting 16:30 after the gun.
There's a photo of him at 1.2 miles next to a runner that hit the 5k mat at 27 minutes (gun time)
If Ryan started 16 minutes late, he would not have been even with this trimmer at mile 1.2. This proves that the chip start time is incorrect.
Ok, let me try to parse this:
Suspect crosses the line 16:30 after the gun.
Suspect hits 1.2 miles at same time as 27 minute (gun) 5k runner.
Therefore the 1.2 mile mark is hit between 16:30 and 27 minutes after the gun.
Is it possible that the 27-minute 5k runner hit 1.2 miles after 16:30 (gun time) and still hit the 5k mark in 27 minutes?
It is possible. His next two miles would have to be run in 10 mins 30 secs to hit the 5k mat in 27 minutes. At that pace he would have crossed the starting line at 11:15 (gun time).
I'm not sure why this implies that the chip time on our suspect is incorrect.
No it's not possible. If Ryan started at 16:30 he could not have instantly transported to the 1.2 mile mark. The fastest he could reasonably get to 1.2 miles is about 10 minutes or 26:30 clock time..about the same time the other runner is at the 5k mat.

Hi Marlon.
Huh? Who is Marlon?
Unless the guy can prove he is capable of a 33 min 10K, I'm on the side of London.
Chips don't lie.

Maybe he did cheat but from personal experience I can say that chips can lie. Just last year I entered a 10 mile race and in the results my gun and chip time were identical, indicating that I was on the starting line. Given that I was near the back of my corral, 43 seconds by my watch, I knew there was an error.
I emailed the race director and they ended up correcting my time. They didn't update it to exactly what I said my time was so I assume they reviewed a video camera they had sitting on the starting line. Any chance there is a video camera on London's starting line so they can measure the time differential?

Hi Marlon.
Doubler or who ever is posting on this needs to get over the idea that everyone is Marlon.
A lot of people I know have issues with Doubler.
Doubler seems to have even pulled back a little.
This thread proves way beyond a reasonable doubt that 90% of LetsRun inhabitants are just plain stupid.

*If* he ran the first 1.2 miles.
What's odd about this is that the alleged cheater is a ~4hr marathoner.
He should not be crossing the start line of the London Marathon 1 or 2 minutes after the gun if he is a 4hr marathoner. I remember being close to the front of the 3hr pen and it took me a good minute or two to get to the front. 16 minutes to cross the start line sounds like it would be appropriate, if he is a ~4hr marathoner and starting in the correct pen. No way should he be going across the start line only 1 or 2 minutes after the gun.
If you look at a map of the first ~10k of the london marathon, you will see that it is a kind of looping shape as the course goes through blackheath and woolwich - if you could get off the course it would be very easy to cut out a big loop of it.
fgdfgdg
He could cut right across the course there.
It's apparent he cheated. I'm not sure why this bloke is trying to exonerate him.
The runners that finished at the same time as Ryan only had a small differential. He says he was in pen 4 fwiw-Blue start.
Bottom line is that he could not have had a 16:30 differential AND be in that photo.
Perhaps that is not him in the grainy photo of some guy wearing a different shirt.

It's an elaborate scheme. He had a guy who looks exactly like him wear long black shorts with yellow trim just like his and blue shoes just like his and a jacket just like his. He didn't count on 'sketchy' having photo x-ray vision to see through his jacket and see that the imposter was wearing a different shirt.
This kid is busted!

He is pictured on marathonfoto with that exact jacket. Everything else is consistent..down to his shoes - can make out the blueish laces.
I put up another article trying to break down the photo evidence more clearly.
http://www.marathoninvestigation.com/2016/05/breaking-down-photo-evidence-that.htmlWhat is the big deal?
Chip missed at 5k.
Therefore removed from the official results because of that not necessarily cheating
Kid can yell his buddies he ran and finished but has no official time because they had a chip missed at 5k.
That's all there is.
Chip malfunction at start and 5K. Then miraculously started working after 10K?
Yeah, that's the ticket.
The kid was caught and appropriately DQ'd. Leave it alone.
