Amazing there hasn't been a single Japanese high school runner sub-4:00.

I think Handy has a point here. I mean, if this kids got small hands then I don't think he'll be able to "compete" at a professional level. James Gifford is a prime example. Tiny hands, limited skill.
Tracy Harris called it a month ago. Idaho high school track is pretty good for a small state. Good coaches and summer/winter programs.

Put Hunter and Slagowski in a mile race together ASAP! And watch both go sub 4 easy! Needs to happen.
Watch out Andrew Hunter

He's too good for Penn State.
You realize that PSU is currently littered with middle distance talent right? I mean they just had a true freshman win the indoor Big 10 800 in 1:46 flat and Brannon Kidder was also a 4:03 miler coming out of high school so I think Slagowski will fit in just fine
Hunter takes down Fisher last year, Slag could do the same thing to Hunter. As others have said this guy has a very fluid stride, good speed. I like his potential!!!
Here he is lead off on a 4*4. Can't be sure of the time - about 49ish? Pretty good wheels whatever.

Yes, I agree with others: please don't go to Penn State!~ If you think the pinnacle of a runner's career is grinding all year to maybe do well in a relay, then fine. If he wants to keep improving and actualize his abilities, he needs to go somewhere that will develop his individual potential.
This is a prime example of why the US can't do better than they are in mid-distances. There's lots of strong talent like this kid, but they get ground down and poorly coached in college. If this guy has a dream of running in the Olympics or being pro, start planning for that now. Which means Penn State is no place for this talent.
He wen 49.low FAT last year in an open 4. http://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/Athlete.aspx?AID=4658804#/L0
I can't wait to see the Hunter and Poland clash
There can be two cases of what will happen. 1) He goes to Penn State and becomes the next talked about 800U guy.........or 2) Goes to Penn State and doesn't like the crazy party school even though his teammates are nice. Then transfers.
Here are Malmo's and my predictions, which were criticized by many, after the 1:48.70:

His 9:14 3200m performance was very impressive to watch. He was neck-and-neck with another competitor with 300m to go, before putting EIGHT seconds on the other competitor by the finish.
I'll predict a 4:02 for him by the end of the year.Just by the way he got after it, I'm thinking he can pull off a Ryun and run sub 4:00 in a high school meet, leading from the gun.

He ran very close to even splits 400/400, roughly 54/54.7, where 2 second positive splits are "considered" ideal. He looks like he is going very smoothly and obviously is alone the whole race. So, he is not coming at this from the sprint side, clearly, and he looks like he can keep going. Malmo may be onto something here. We can look forward to some very fast performances at 800m and mile this year, maybe a sub-4 hs race, but definitely sub-4 and 1:46 with higher competition.

Interesting how little his stride changes from 400 to the mile. Just smooth power all the way.

No guarantee this kid won't end of the like the rest of the super talented/super injured bunch who amount to diddly shit on the pro circuit.
Therefore, it's a good bet that he will be a bust, and consequentially it's wrong to praise an obviously praiseworthy feat?
Nothing like looking at this in a glass-half-full-of-Drano kind of way.
Bravo, Michael! We are thunderstruck by 4 U.S. HSers sub-4 within a year... go Mile!
Updated U.S. High School Sub-4 List:
You tried to cut and paste a mix of nested/column/header formatted material straight to text so that the result is a jumbled mess. I hand-edited your post for you so that is makes sense now.
http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=7181379&page=1#ixzz47KUpEjcQIt already made sense.
