Did Nedti train in flats?
DeHart would not know because he is one of those poser coaches. He claims to know everyone, he will show up at a track where athletes are training, offer to time them then tell others he is their coach.Sorry to expose you John DeHart.
Ndeti was never a client of his, and yes Ndeti trained in trainers but never wore socks! Ndeti was a christian but never paid his agent his commission from winning Boston s bible reader yes, good person no. Was nike good to him, yes, did alberto cut the deal, no Alberto does not cut the deals Caprioti does.
I lived on the Palouse near Pullman when Henry was on his record tear. I was in high school and of course most of my classmates were clueless about running and thought bad college football players were gods.
Some guys on my HS X-C team took a day off from school to watch Henry clean up at the NCAA X-C nationals in 15 degree weather. He was like a deer -- a very fast deer. I also saw him run at nationals in Eugene, he could've won the 10K, 5K, and steeple that year if Chaplin let him. He won the 5K heat in 13:22 and then just ran the steeple prelims and final going away. He was amazing.
His senior year at WSU he was trying to graduate and got out of shape (I think this is when the drinking started) and was running over 9:00 for steeple and I saw him run 14:30 in Pullman ... it was brutal. Two months later he re-set his WR in the 5,000 in 13:06 or something. Amazing.
Saw him at a gas station once and luckily my X-C buddies were there as we were pointing, "There's Rono!" He just smiled and waved ... glad the football jocks weren't around, they wouldn't understand.
* I heard when he first started student teaching in New Mexico he took kids out for a run in P.E. and he said, "You know, I used to be a bit of a runner several years ago." The kids said, "No way!" Henry just smiled. Funny stuff.
Henry is the greatest.

Wow, they should make a movie about his life.

up as we were talking about lots of things. He just said if
i did not get involved with jesus christ i would be headed down the wrong road like other kenyans have.
Another piece of info. that nobody knows i thought i would share with you. When he broke the course record at boston in 1994 which still stands 2;0715.He told me he did no speed work at all.He was a head of his time.He also said in closing he was spent and totally shot
movie about his life. yeah. someone go out there and do it! I partied with Henry Rono. Great person Great runner.
I saw Henry Rono and Alberto Salazar dual at the NCAA Cross Country Championship in Madison, Wisconsin, in January of 1979 (I believe it was January 20). Snow on the ground made it hard to see the chalk, and Rono went way off course after building a huge lead over Salazar.
But Rono was WAY behind Salazar when he got back on course, and Salazar barely managed to hold him off to win the race. In typical Salazar fashion, he collapsed and needed medical attention. It's no wonder that Salazar was burned out a few years later.

I remeber back in the early 1990's Henry Rono was making a comeback as a Master.Where is he now?
Coach Caboose:
I recently got an e-mail from Henry. He does live in New Mexico, however, if I am correct it is in western NM near the Crownpoint area. We didn't talk much, however, he seemed to be in good spirits.
I know Henry, but, I wouldn't say we are best of friends. We know who each other are and say hello when we see each other. I last seen him race at at Super Bowl Sunday race in Albuquerque about 5 years ago. He didn't win, however, for his size and at the time the amount of running he was doing he did alright.
He was the asst coach at a Native American Community College located on the Navajo reservation (Shiprock, NM) for several years in the early 90s and still lives around that area. Yes, it is true he did work as a skycap at the airport during the time he had a drinking problem. Is he still drinking? I do not know? Is he still training? I do not know. Since we have just recently made contact with each other I think I will ask him and give you words from his own mouth, if he elects to respond to my questions.
I have plans to include him in some projects that I have recently started. We have both already discussed this and I just like most people on here, think Henry is a great person regardless of where he has been, worked, or is doing right now.

henry was amazing and did so without epo....his 13:07 5 k was epo free --- one of the last great non druggies, along with walker, coghlan, treacy, shorter, rogers, salazar, the sport was clean and youngsters could look up to these guys.
wow -- Rono gets fat and out of shape and comes back and runs sub13:10 again, obviously far away from his true potential, and so everyone faster than him is drugged.
most people cite facts/evidence if they wish their claims to carry creedence.

Why don't you supply us with some evidence to the contrary. It's actually counterintuitive Trackhead. Why don't you supply us with some proof that these Sub 12:40 and sub 26:30 guys DON'T take drugs?
I personally believe that Bekele would still have the records anyway. I just thnk they'd be more like 12:50 and 26:50. HOLY SHIT !!!! I just held two separate thoughts in my head!

Maddog,
I'm a writer who would like to write an essay about Henry Rono for a collection I'm currently putting together. If you're comfortable with it, could you e-mail me? If possible, I'd like to get in touch with him.
David Odhiambo
I MUST AGREE. Every time I see a time of sub 12:50 or sub 26:45, I instantly think "Drugs." It may not be true, but considering how many cyclist who are big names are doped up, it makes sense that some of the elite super runners are too.

Since Henry ran that without the use of drugs, isn't it possible that the handful of runners on the planet running faster than that today are doing so with their natural talent and hard work.
not to put Henry down....but wasnt he old for a freshman....something like 24 years old?
johnny carson is a troll. Ignore him.
As for trackhead providing proof, you're an idiot. YOU have the burden of proof. Asking trackhead to prove they're NOT doping is like me asking you to prove that little green space aliens aren't eating out your innards. Go ahead. Prove it to me.

absolutely not.
