What a joke of a Marathon is this?
front runners exchanging words to each other like it's an easy run

Paula Radcliffe reports that they've lost the generator in Dubai, hence the lack of commentary:

Since the timing is also not updating, they may have to restart the race...

Well it should be pretty easy at this point. They're what 3 km into a marathon.

You do realize a) the race just started and b) if the generator is out, it very well could be impacting the timing.
Ok, the thing I don't get is the men who've already been dropped. Why do you even go to a race with no appearance fee to get dropped in the first 5k? I mean I would assume you'd know you weren't ready to run 2:05 in training.
Anyone got a watch on it? Are there markings on the street?
We could come up with splits that way. I got my watch but forgot to start it at the very beginning.
lights camera action!

Haven't seen mile markers but the lead men came through 3k in 8:48. That's 2:03:46 pace (though obviously it's very early).
man the video quality and camera angles are really good for a running event.

Sorry, I meant the km splits. Anyway, they updated now and show:
1 0:00:00
2 00:03:40
3 00:03:40
4 00:03:40
5 00:03:40
Looks FAKE to me
Timing site is saying 14:40 at 5k.
There are distances on the map but no times. Turnaround was about 5.75km.
God watching these marathons makes me feel like such a piece of crap. Here I am sitting in my bed eating a bag of pretzals while these guys are running almost my mile pr as their marathon pace. Crazy stuff.

Leaderboard says 14:35 for Tsegaye
So the one benefit of no commentators is that you can hear the runners' watches beep at every kilometer split. So they just passed 6k at 17:39, assuming the watches are accurate.
It looks like my hope for the New Year that Nike and adidas would get rid of the ugly purple singlets for 2016 has been dashed.
Commentary back
Hearing their footsteps is the best, much better than any commentary could be.
Agree..amazing footage so far..some of the best Ive seen.
