If he said this, then he's such a hypocrite because he does this every race in conference. In this year's 1500 and 800 he even said in his post race interview that this was his strategy all along. Now he doesn't like it?

Just look at how Kejelcha disrupted Farah's tactics in Doha by forcing him to go a lot harder than he wanted to maintain the lead. Kejelcha faded, but Farah did not win. And then Kejelcha won several races after.

You really don't think ALL of these guys can't run sub 50 in the relay? I am a high school coach, but I have some pretty normal kids splitting 50-51. Pretty sure every 1500m finalist in the NCAA can run under 50 in a relay.
I WAS a 1500m finalist and I never ran sub 50.. and I was speed based. Ran mid 51's in high school and 50.x in college. You take the 50.x speed and combine it with endurance to be a sub 4 miler. Ches would have a hard time going under 49.5.

where's the proof that soratos can run 48?
Read the first post of the thread. And if Ches could run a 48 he would be the best 5k runner in the world. It is obvious you never ran at a high level if you think 5k guys can run 48 second quarters. Nick Willis claims to have 49.x-50.x 400 speed and he has run 1:45. from here:

Alan Webb could run 48.
Alan Webb 47 splits in high school. That's well-documented.
I saw chez run 50 flat on the first 400 of an 800 once while he was in high school. He ended up running 1:50, so he was close to all out on tbe first lap, but I still think he could run 48 high. Chez does indeed have a lot if speed.
Where ever the finish line is , be the first on to cross it. That is the competition. If you want to prove how tough you are, gather all your friends and hold a cigarette lighter under your arms in front of them.

Soratos has 48 second speed on a 4x400 but he doesn't like sit and kick races. He said, "I don't like how distance running has become a jog and sprint fest. That's not really what distance running is to me. To me it's who can run as hard as they can for as long as they can and really push their limits so that's what I try and do out there."
People over do the Prefontaine comparisons in Eugene, but we couldn't help thinking of Pre shen he said it.

Webb also ran 1:43 and 3:46 and has way more speed than Ches... that is my point. Webb in his prime and Ches could probably run a similar 10k but Webb can run a faster mile and 800 because he has actual speed.. not just the ability to outkick a bunch of 50-51 guys in a 5k and 10k. Ches has run one sit and kick mile (and he lost at Penn). No way he is under 49 in a 400.
Heck, even Mo Farah couldn't get under 50.8 with a rolling start after jogging 4600m in 13:20. Don't think he'd be much under 50 in a flat out 400.
What exactly does he mean by "become"? Just looking at past olympic finals one can see that it has always been that way.... Sure not every olympic final has been slow a lot have, and I personally think they're way more exciting that way... lets go back...
1976: they go out in 62s the announcer "Very, very slow... the man with the big finish may want to slow it down"
1980: they go through in 61 high, followed by 2:05... "No one wants to sacrifice a chance for a medal"
1988: they go out in 2:00
2004: They go through in 2:01 and El G takes it from there... but only because it's in his best interest
I think the problem is people have some weird idea that in the past everyone was going balls to the wall every race... Hell no! It's championship season! Sure these guys set world records and chased times but when it came down to championship racing they raced like champions... Saratos has had chances to chase times and he's done it... running sub 3:40, and 3:55 indoors which is awesome, I'm a huge fan of the kid but he of all people should know that it all comes down to racing now.
Well done.
