Mo is making multi-millions per year. Seems to be well over two million just in appearance fees. That means he is making 100x the amount of an Olympic trials athlete. I can't think of any other sport where one of the top athletes makes that much more than a very good athlete. In the NBA the average salary is $4-5 million, and top players make $20 million. That's 5x as compared to more than 100x.
Team sports have unions that make sure that rank-and-file players are paid well. A 12th player on the NBA roster is hardly selling any ticket or contributing to the TV rating. If he is paid his "market value", he would be paid much less, and Lebrons and Currys of the world would be paid much more.
Is Roger Federer making 100x of a first round loser in the Grand Slam? I think so.
