How about bringing back AW with a Harry Johnson type coach?

I wish someone could look it up. I posted it when she made the decision to go pro right out of HS. I said she should run in college. Everyone here called me crazy, and said things like "she can still go to college.."
Well?
Now she's burnt out at what age?
If she ran in college, she would've had fun, ran on a team, had a less taxing workout routine and much less pressure.
Just another talent rushed in before she's ready.
You are concluding before a conclusion is appropriate.

Frustrating that that Salazar won't comment and no one has gotten any quotes from Cain either. You want people to care about the sport? Then how about some transparency?

Or maybe she would have went to college, went to sh1t anyway, and missed out on a good chunk of nike money.

If anyone's "slumping" it's Salazar. I would say that NOP is just about over.
In those photos from Park City, he is not looking very healthy, and I wonder what kind of a diet he's on. If I recall correctly, he takes a lot of medications, which surely don't do anything good for his health. Sad, and I hope he can turn it around.
Mary is a good 10 pounds heavier, and that's really the only difference in her times. But she can't lose 10 pounds in a short amount of time and get good training in. So it makes sense to shut it down a bit.
Just about every professional loses a season or two because they didn't quite realize how important weight is, and then they have to figure out how to clean up their diet without just eliminating everything and starving. It's difficult.
I think she'll be back on top...next year. These things take time to learn.
At her best, she was living in NY, training under the close eye of NZ Olympian John Henwood.. she moved away to the west coast, and her results have not been forthcoming.
Now she is back with Henwood - expect things to turn around.
I cannot tell by the pictures if she is substantially heavier, however that was my first thought when her times were way off from the past two years. Once a girl becomes a woman and the body changes it is usually game over for fast running past High School age. Only the woman who have naturally narrow hips make it as a distance runner and those who starve themselves usually end up a train wreck because of health/injury issues. Ten pounds is a huge impact on a 110-120 pound runner.
Then again this may not be the issue, could simply be that she missed training at home and the pressure of college life derailed her training. Everyone else in the NOP is a 100% of the time runner. College takes a lot of mental and even emotional energy. I hope she comes back, seems like a nice kid.
Didn't Salazar spend the off season changing Mary Cain's form? Perhaps the efficiency isn't there yet and that's why she's running so poorly this season.

She could'v learnt to type Engrish too!
OMG weight is the laziest, most ignorant excuse.
Reporter: So Alberto, what was the reason for Mary to leave?
Alberto: Well, you know, she gained weight. Despite being a professional runner with professional training and support, she "became a woman" despite our best efforts.
Weight gain: 7s, form change: 3s, lack of motivation: 5s.
?????? what, take a good look at the east African woman, or even Molly Huddle, Jenny Simpson, Shannon Rowbury, etc. you cannot dispute the weight issue.

Exactly! I mean he raced in a hat. A HAT! And it was BACKWARDS!
Yes, it so popular, if you go to the NOP website, they are now selling backwards hats.

I'm sure they all weigh more than they did in high school and they are running fine.
Put a backpack or weight vest on and time yourself.

That's dead weight. There's a difference between a backpack and useful body weight. Have you heard that running involves your muscles? Shocking.
Mary will be racing in one of the NYCRuns 5Ks, pick up $100 and we will merge 2 threads. :-)
Best of luck to MC, hope she comes back soon.
