Very true.
This idea does have merit. I think the model is a combination of NASCAR and Major League Soccer (MLS).
Why not put together an "Americans Only" Grand Prix circuit? This would provide a summer track season for post collegians that mirrors the Euro season. (But, provides a venue for those "not worthy" of getting into Euro meets.) This series could award prize money and be televised. While the competitors may not be the world's best, we would still see some good racing and, more importantly, build a fan base in the U.S. with homegrown heroes.
It would prove to be good for development of our talent. I think that folks like Torres, Ritz, Webb, McArdle, Wejo, etc. would have access to track racing without getting destroyed by the Africans. We still get to race at Worlds, Olympics, etc. to see where we stand against the big boys and girls and, perhaps, a few truly world class competitors would graduate from this incubator. Look at MLS. Compared to the Premier League or Bundesliga, it's inferior soccer but, our recent World Cup team (with mostly MLS players) performed extremely competively against the planet's soccer powers.
In my opinion, this should be the focus of USATF. Not claiming credit for Marion Jones and ignoring everyone else.
