Soratos had a terrible plan. He panicked like a guy running not to lose. He ran a 1:52, 800m at altitude in a workout, I gotta believe he can kick with Cheserek. Or, at the very least, make that move at 600 to go.

Cheserek finished like a man, Soratos like a little girl.

Many, many props to Soratos for forcing an honest pace in a championship race. He broke the mold and paid the price, but he ran like a man with courage.
Zero props to "King Ches" for drafting like a gutless turd. Share the pace like a man or get off the track. This isn't cycling, and your job isn't to sit comfortably among a bunch of paid domestiques. All the so-called patriots on this board should should be cringing over the possibility that this yellow foreigner might someday be a U.S. citizen.

Can we assume you were saying the same thing when Galen Rupp sat on Sam Chelanga in NCAA XC 2008?

I don't usually troll, but I am completely laying claim to this thread. The really funny - I mean, REALLY funny- thing is that people continue to argue against my original post...even AFTER I copped to blatant trolling! What a bunch of friggin' morons! (Thanks for the laughs!)
Here's how I really feel: Soratos made a gutsy move that didn't pay off, and Cheserek proved himself to be the better and smarter racer. E/O/T

Correct.
Soratos ran like a child. Amateurish, even.
Cheserek ran like a man. Looked professional.

You must be new here.

Ches ran the exact same race as Soratos. In fact his 4th 200, the one where Soratos made his absurd move, was even faster than what Soratos ran.

Not new; just new to trolling. And don't be so quick to pass judgment...you're one of the morons who submitted a pointless post deep into the thread.

Two different types of runners. Ches has the 10k strength to weather a move like that early. Saratos does not. In a championship race, Saratos has to move when he knows he can hold it. That's not from 1000m out..
Saratos ran a race plan he's not trained to run. His best move was to wait and see if he had superior speed to Ches. I'm not sure what Ches can run an 800m in, but I have to believe that Saratos is as good or even better. Saratos isn't a better over distance guy than Ches, so why run the race plan that suits that type of a runner?

Eh? He got second and ran everyone but Cheserek right off the track. How is that a terrible plan? There was no plan that would guarantee victory against a guy who at that moment had never lost an NCAA championship race, but Soratos made a memorable stab at doing something that no one expected and no one but Cheserek could handle. Good stuff.

There are HUGE problems with a slow pace and leaving things to a kick. You leave everyone else in the race. Tripping, bad positioning, getting boxed in. El G got tripped in 96, no medal.
Going all in from 1k out. Serrano probably thought he could drop 1:52 and have enough to hang on for the win. Valiant effort.
Too many Pre lovers on this board
Ches needs to show respect for the lead his teammates gave him and for the legacy he represents - Steve Pre. Not to mention the fans that would have loved to see Ches honor that given lead and blood and guts legacy of Steve Pre by taking those other runners into thin air with a 2:53 3/4s. Like Mike Keogh did to Joe Savage in the 1970 Eastern Mile. That was strategy, too. But it required guts and heart.
Penn is special, a one-of-a-kind experience grounded in extraordinary running. To run at Penn is an honor that should be honored. If not him, who? If not then, when?
The degree of Ches' slowdown violated the integrity of all sports, not just track. If baseball players played like he ran, they would not swing the bat until the 9th inning. Boxers would not throw a punch until the last round. Just because you can do it, that does mean you should it.
Finally, for those defending Ches' actions, keep in mind he lost the race for his team and school and, like it or not, has lost the respect of some portion of the track community. That does not sound like a good result to me.
Other than these comments, have no opinion on the topic.
Blessings and peace.
