He is done.
He is done.
I don't think he'll do all that well. Completely different skillset than running. The only athletes that, as a group, do well upon entry are gymnasts, and especially, parcour and rock climbers.
After the post-hurdles snafu at Millrose, Ashton should be given an invite.
Good for him. I think he'll do well in this context. I can hear the voice-over narration as he crushes this event now...
"It turned out that the sweet-talking, beer-mile-running goofball was an 800 meter world silver medalist. Which makes him harder than a coffin nail."
He should just sign with Oiselle already.

While he's certainly strong and has the muscle and upper body strength for a good majority of the obstacles that require competitors to be able to support and hold their own weight, he's short and rather stocky. Unless he has an incredible jump skill set or an abnormal reach for this height, other obstacles that require reach might be challenging, given his height. Most of the more successful competitors are tall and lean. Wish him luck. Hopefully he'll tweet the results next month so we don't have to wait months until NBC airs the show.
He's supposedly 5'10" and 165. And he ran 1:43. I'm guessing he can jump pretty far and high if he wants.

Could be...but in the past ABC typically has a celebrity cast unveiling for Dancing. Its scheduled for Feb 24th. I realize the celebrity cast is typically released early through speculation and spoilers, but for Nick to flat out announce something like this before the show does is unlikely and could land him in trouble with the network. Someone suggested American Ninja Warrior via instagram. The city tryouts are taking place next month.

Yeah, but it was like 1:42.9x. Basically 1:43 :)

He is 5'10. Not exactly short.
I agree with the stocky part though. This is probably what makes him appear short.
Paul Terek, a polevaulter/Decathlete, did the Japanese ninja warrior which the American version was based on. He did well and got to third round I believe. But Ninja Warrior requires tremendous upper body strength and control. If you've ever watched the rounds you'll see just how strong in the upper body you need to be to complete the courses. Symmonds will have no chance unless he's given up running and is focusing only on Ninja Warrior.
It's cool that he's doing it but in reality the only track and field athletes who could translate well to this show would be Pole Vaulters or Decathletes.
How much do the contestants get paid? Do they pay their way to the trials?
I've been told basic day rate is about 900 a day for a background type speaking part- clerk who sits at desk and says "Mr Jones will see you now". 450 for rehearsal days but typically the above actor would not do a rehearsal day and a shooting day. So how much would these folks get?
Self professed virgin Lolo Jones may have gotten as much as $125,000 in total compensation for attempting to dance on Dancing With A Star.
I freakin love Ninja Warrior, although Japanese version is way better than American. Bullshit life story before EVERY competitor in American version to pad it out kills me.
If he was a rock climber rather than a runner, he might have a chance to be more that a 1 minute human interest story.
Symmonds is a clown. More worried about his brand than his running.
I don't know where you found the AND finals dated but if they are June 24 and 25 and if nick s was to make it the far doesn't that conflict with usatf champs? If not a direct conflict but close enough I would think not the best way to get ready to try to get to worlds
Is that the show where they do gymnastics tricks over colorful obstacles? If so i didn't know Nick did stunts and tricks like I've seen on youtube for alphabet soup SF outfits examples: Delta Force / Navy SEALS / LAPD SWAT / Green Berets.
The ANW dates are listed on the show Facebook page. I totally skipped right over the USA track and field championships, like Nick, I just assumed Worlds was a sure thing for him (being sarcastic and funny, no one loves Nick more than Nick). Typically hasnt the outdoor champs been the end of June? That would be a conflicting issue if he makes it through at least 2 runs through the obstacles in Venice before heading off to Vegas in June...good luck to him though.
Hope he had been doing some type of rock climbing or something with upper body and grip strength. That's usually the killer for even the best overall athletes on the show.
i continue to hate nick symmonds even more lol. he is just a clown. dude shows up at PETA and hes a hunter ohkay buddy. now hes a ninja warrior. hes a media whore
