clearly the concept of "pathetic" elite 800 time
anyone who brings up a 1'45 for a career 3'32pb guy in same breathe as a 3'26+ guy clearly has no clue about the sport
again no clue & no research
whiteman was a 1500 guy but never good enough to reach a global outdoor 1500 final
when he ran his 3'32.3pb, his then 800pb, run same year was a crap 1'47.1 !!!
when he ran his 1'45.8pb he had a 3'34.9sb, clearly indicating he'd made a shift to more speed-based 1500 training but his 1500 had become poor but the rubbish level of brit 1500 in '00 got him into games
by time off his 800pb, he was more likely an equally good 1500 & 800 guy
utter nonsense
bernie's peak at 1500 was in '01, certainly capable of a 1'41-mid
by '05 he'd already given up as a "pure" 1500 guy with that drifting out to 3'29.3 but now a 12'59
it has been 10y since bernie even did anything like great speed-training, moving to 1500/5k, then 5k/1500 & now a "pure" 5k guy bordering on 5k/10k
only someone absolutely clueless coud expect a guy to come within 3s off their 800 prime after 14y when for last 10y they have not done anything like the same speed-training as then & have been an established 5k guy for years
you then forget bernie has given his body a hammering for 15y at top-level since 3'30 in '99 with all the accumulated wear'n'tear
whiteman quit the sport for 5y in '04 !!!
he gave his body chance to recover from his career & then come out to run masters wrs in low-level meets with no drug-testing for him
who on earth is going to shell-out few $100 for an epo test for a 43y ole 1'48 guy ???
utter rubbish
he ran 1'44.02 in same year as 3'29.2pb in a slow race to bell won by bucher in 1'43,5 - same bucher who ran 1'42.5 that year in a fast race
his 1'43.3pb was in a proper fast race
he only finished 6th with that in a race won by kip in 1'42.2
chirchir was in ~ same shape as 1'43.3pb in his 3'29.2 year
try & find a neurone to calculate what a 3'26.3 guy couda expected for 800 ???
you clearly have no clue about those years or watched the races
baala had a 3'32.0sb in '02, with then 3'31.9pb entering rieti 800
his best 800 entering '02 was a rubbish 1'46.2, albeit earlier in '02 he got that down to a slightly less pathetic 1'45.9pb in nowhere meet in villneuve
his 1'43.1pb was superb in a race where he was forced to run fast, a meet i was fortunate to watch on satellite, mainly concentrating on hicham's incredible 3'26-high run
baala ran 1'43.1 off pure 1500 training & i wouda expected him to get well into 1'42s in the following years providing he got into a fast run 800 as baala who came 5th with that 1'43.1 was never going to be in pole behind pacer at bell, but wait to kick late to get his best possible placing
this is where again you have no clue about history :
baala’s best year was ’03 when racing hicham to the death in Brussels in 3’28.9
that was year for him to get into a fast elite 800
unfortunately for baala, this was rubbish year for 800 & the only fast elite 800 was brussels which he couldn’t run as facing hicham over 1500 !
the next best elite field 800 was rome won in pathetic 1’44.0
baala’s only serious 800 was in zurich won in pathetic 1.44.1 by muladzi with baala 4th in 1’44.4 – a race with no fast pace to force him to run hard & he lost the sprint to guys with much faster basic 400
rest of baala’s career, his 1500 best was 3’30.8, not even close to ’03 prime when he wouda been looking at 1’42-mid if he’d run the 800 in Brussels instead of 1500 v hicham
bernie needed no more sharpening up for speed
he was a speed-demon & needed more endurance work & that’s why he occasionally ran over-distance, not under
get a clue
bernie needed no more speed
it was his endurance which was severely lacking
he shouda been running lots of 3ks in his 1500 prime but found them to hard
again you show your lack of knowledge
he didn’t need more speed, which was probably 46-low/mid
he needed more endurance so that in 3’26+ races he wouda been less fatigued on last lap, allowing 53.5 finished to possibly dip into 52s
read above & learn
kennster in his prime didn’t have better 400 speed than his opposition
he coud produce 53+ finishes in 12’50+ races because his endurance was so good that he was hardly tired at bell & coud produce 53+ whereas oppo were 55 or 56 at best
in an open 400, I doubt he wouda made top-5 against his top oppo of kenyans/north africans/other ethiopians
that’s what incredible endurance does for your “speed”
you really are completely clueless
1500 training still requires some serious speedwork in training
baala didn't train for 800 but ran 1'43.1 for it off 1500 training
webb didn't train for 800 but ran 1'43.8 for it of 1500 training
if you get a “pure” 20.00 guy who has never run a 100 but eventually tries his hand at 1, his speed-training for the 200 woud get him close to 10-flat even though he has done no “proper” 100m training
& bernie has run 3’26 which is a quantum leap above ovett
ovett was producing 54+ finishes in 3’34 races
bernie was producing 53+ finishes in 3’26 ones !!!
they both had similar endurance at 7’33 & 8’13
bernie’s 800 speed woud be expected to be best part of 2s better than ovett’s
completely clueless
above examples of chirchir & baala who both ran 1'43
then we have webb, who was always regarded as a strength-miler who had never broken 1'46 before his peak year, in his his 1st serious fast race 800 v a top guy in reed, he smashes a 1'43.8 !!!
if webb can go 1'43.8, how on earth can bernie be a 1'44 guy ???
if a mongolian or herzegovinian turned up & ran 3’26+ with no other race distances to his name, what on earth woud be your guess for their current 800 ability ???
