King of Karma,
I agree with you that racing a training run is not necessarily a good idea, but this run was set up as an all-out as I've already stated.
King of Karma,

You are right. Furthermore, there is nothing wrong with incorporating fast 10 milers into your training, as long as the timing and pacing are somewhat judicious (ala' Bowerman/Dellinger and Vigil).
Flagpole WIlly:
Get your story straight. You said
"Happened to me today.
Met up with an aquaintence and some of his running buddies for a 10 mile run. They kept talking about how they were going to run really fast and that when they got ahead of me that they would just wait for me in the parking lot. Don't know why they assumed I would be slower than they were.
Anyway, we went through the first mile in 7:15 and one of them said, "let's pick it up." I did the last 9 miles right on 6:00 pace (fast for me these days) and they struggled to do the rest at just under 7 pace.
As it turned out, I waited for them for about 9 minutes.
Ha! I'm no world beater, but man if you're gonna talk like that before a run, you'd better know who you are talking to.
Anyone else got a story like that?"
Important points are:
"They kept talking about how they were going to run really fast and that when they got ahead of me that they would just wait for me in the parking lot. Don't know why they assumed I would be slower than they were."
AND
"I'm no world beater, but man if you're gonna talk like that before a run, you'd better know who you are talking to."
I see no where in your original story where these guys said it would be all out....just that it would be fast and you may not be able to keep up. Your feelings were hurt so you pounded them on a training run-not a race.
You're a big man Willy.
I ran a little out of my head on that New Year's Day run, but it isn't something I will make a habit of. Anyway, enough from me on this subject.
WRONG..and that you are the lesser man because of your actions. The truth will set you free.
Ok then.
Hey Willy, I bet if I criticize you, you'll end up responding, even though you've claimed like 6 times that you have no more to say about this.
I don't think you have the willpower to NOT respond.
willy just wanted to come on here and brag about how fast he is
Willy is a silly old man. Washed up, broken and lonely, he writes long books, each consisting of many chapters, regarding his physical greatness. It is he whom we owe our deepest and most sincere respect. For without Willy, would there be a fast?
Free Willy, let him hear the truth...the bells are tolling, will the sunrise bring reality as spoken by the silver backed glass?
