How many 10k's did Solinksy run after the sub-27? He still has a faster 5k than Rupp (even being injured since 2011?).
Of course Rupp has better stats now (including medals) - he has stayed healthy (mostly). The point was what could have Solinsky run for 10000m if he had stayed healthy, given the 12-3 record at the time - no one knows (it is specualtion at this point). But given that the sub-27 was his debut (wasn't it?), most would argue that he still may have run faster - perhaps to current Rupp levels or better. The bottom line is that it didn't happen, he got hurt.
Salazar has done a great job with Rupp - No one says differently, certainly not the brojo's. I think both coaches (Salazar and Schumacher) have flaws, as good as they are, which paint BOTH as somewhat eccentric. Alberto mostly because HE is always in the limelight - sometimes to the detriment of his athletes. Jerry is almost the opposite (maybe why they don't get along), he is so secretive it is almost scary. There is a middle ground. My concern is that the hype around these two coaches marginalizes the coaching of other (perhaps equally proficient) people which could increase the depth (that is lacking) in events from 800m to marathon. I don't know who Ajee Wilson's coach is (and perhaps that is how it should be), but she is progressing along nicely because the relationship seems to focus on her and her accomplishments. Not whether she is in a great "group" or has a more famous coach. I think this is going going down the wrong road - even if some athletes develop well regardless - in having "groups" about the coach. It should always be about the athlete.
