I post pics of my massive dumps.
So facebook is going to provide me with information on products and services that I may be interested in? How is this a problem?

Good point. Our addiction to eating has grown quite severe. Unfortunately, it's one of those addictions where the withdrawal symptoms are so nasty that we just can't quit.
Hey, if it wasn't for Letsrun, I would never learned about Tiger Girls!

Maybe I'm trying it in the wrong places (libraries, young professionals networking events, Hardee's) - where do you use it with success?

You haven't tried the "So, what's your screen name on Letsrun" line on the ladies?
Works every time.

OP -
Google ads have been using your personal information to sell you to 3rd parties for years. Google AdSense is basically on every single non-pornographic site.
OP here --
That's true, but I use bing, not google, because those guys I don't trust either. The gmail ad invasion and terms of service are not good either. I use outlook and bing. Not that they're perfect, but they're better. Ironically, I trust Gates and his crew much more than the Google/Facebook creeps.
But the major problem I brought up is the unwitting user/psychological guinea pig story that just came out about Facebook. Trying to make people depressed to see how it affected their habits to see which ads would be best to show them...no, no, no, this is not the same as standard online or offline advertising and the fact that they have hoards of people's personal information is also much, much different than traditional advertising.
This is not ok, please don't act like it is. The only way to stop it is to delete your accounts. Just do it. -Nike
(I'm serious about deleting accounts; it's the only way to stop this horrible, no-neck monster.)
or just be sheep and keep letting them mess with your minds to make a few extra $. that's pretty cool too i guess
And you've been kicking yourself ever since.
What is with this paranoia of lack of control? Just ignore ads. Some of you people have some deep-rooted insecurities.
Or better yet, use adblock. I cannot fathom in the shallowest bit why people have not downloaded adblock. If you want to support particular sites, you can set the filter to allow ads on those sites.
You know what's more pathetic than A Duck's post? The people obsessively diagramming every grammatical mistake it contained. No one cares, ya hosers.

Facebook was great when I got on in 2005. Only open to college students, no privacy controls to prevent people from viewing your profiles, no ads, that profile guy that looked like Steve Magness
I got on there in 2004, when it was only available at a handful of colleges. I remember there was a little box that would indicate if you were logged in from an campus dorm, and if so, the exact building. It's changed so much. Anyway remember the original "wall". Basically a blank text box where you could overwrite what others had written, etc.
And +1 to the Steve Magness reference. That shadowy figure looked EXACTLY like him. Those were also the days when Magness's blog/logs were actually entertaining to read.

They're messing with your mind to sell ads to funeral parlors, they're using your personal information to sell you to 3rd parties, and they are also some of the most irritating, self-important people on the planet. Lean-in, you have no neck. Zuk, connecting people to the internet in sub-Saharan Africa is about trying to make you richer.
Please, delete your accounts if you have any shred of self-respect left. Even if you don't. This post will probably get deleted because LR is now on Facebook and wants to sell ads too, I guess.
The fact that your on the internet at all makes you a fool as well...so your swimming in the same pool.

No it's not new. You basically described A/B testing which is as old as the Pyramids.
Geez you're stupid.

No that would do nothing. Do you not no how deleting works? They don't actually "delete" anything from their database. Everything you did is still there.
But you're hopefully trolling anyways.
Your stories get crazier and crazier. Get help.
I like Facebook.
