1. Big publicity for her sponsor.
2. Extra (mainstream) publicity for USATF.
3. Did not prevent any contender from competing.
4. Did not interfere with the race.
5. Connects an elite athlete with countless women of all abilities.
6. 2:32. Damn.

This is very likely a world record in the 800m for a woman in her third trimester.

Actually, your post makes YOU look like an idiot.
Do you even know the meaning of the word pretentious? What is her pretense - being pregnant? I am pretty sure that she wasn't hiding much out there and was pretty clear and earnest about being a slower-than-previous pregnant woman. Kind of the opposite of pretentious.
As for the "bad mother" piece, be careful with your anonymous judgements when you are clearly of imbecile intelligence. There is no harm in quickly jogging for 2.5 minutes at any point in pregnancy. Her child is enjoying a healthier pregnancy than 99.9% of mothers, certainly including yours when she was apparently addling your brain with various intoxicants.
you can see her finish about 2:24

Post of the day.
I think what she did was brilliant from a PR perspective and could see this going to CNN, Good MOrning AMerica, etc.
I'd love to know if it had anything to do with her contract. Even better if it did.
That is hardcore. She is just showing that she is not going to take the easy way out and skip the meet like plenty of healthy athletes who should be there, but even 7 1/2 months pregnant she ran 3 seconds faster than I maintained for my 800 repeats today, which pretty much puts me in my place. She earned her spot and maybe she even earned some attention for track and field. By the way, it is fun to be able to watch the meet during the prelims in the week and get to see a lot of tremendous athletes running either above their heads in college or making it on very little money in their 20s just for the chance to compete in meets like this and maybe even get through to the finals.
Title says it all...

Really though.
The place just oozes with misogyny sometimes.
Awesome.
Didn't seem like Martinez thought too highly of it.

she ran 2:32! she's not competitive. By being all like "look at me look at me" she's costing an athlete a spot who actually deserves to compete. Some pregnant chick shouldn't be competing. I have no respect for Montano and definitely didn't gain any today
If you go to the Status of Entries page (http://www.usatf.org/Events---Calendar/2014/USATF-Outdoor-Championships/Status-of-Entries.aspx) you'll see that they accepted everyone that didn't scratch. The one exception is Alexis Panisse but she's may not be an American citizen as she competed for the Dominican Republic at the CAF Juniors in 2012. They also were going to take 32 but ended up with just 31 so it's unlikely that she took a spot away from anyone else.
This about sums it up:
you're right. strange answer. "I don't want to say anything?" can't she just say "congrats to her" and move on. That really surprises me.

Agreed. It's absolutely f-zing ridiculous. I'm glad some people are calling out those for criticizing her for running.
Why in God's name can't she run?! Massive props to her.
Yeah but the baby (fetus, whatever) didn't EARN that spot
You're someone who would complain that Rick Hoyt gets to participate in the Boston Marathon.

Among worst posts ever.
Thanks, ttc. I composed it solely for you. Meanwhile: Alysia Montaño is still signing autographs at Sac while you're failing at trolling.
Espn jumped out this:
Does it not bother you that they mention nothing about the actual race or winner? Have we gotten so "progressive" that a good story is more important in sports than winning? I tend to agree that it's a total look at me stunt which I hate but people eat this crap up so totally smart marketing/PR move. Still I would rather see more complete coverage than just this bs. But I guess that's why I come to LR so I can find out the real results.
