Yes, we can't forget the Track Masters and their incredible performances too. Johnny Gray (1:48!!), though not someone who could venture out on the roads or grass, but very good at his discipline. Colm Rothery (Irland), great half miler/miler.
It would be interesting to know of John Campbells best mile/800 times. Definitely the best road racer of all time, in my opinion.

Guess that's what amazes me about Payton Jordan. Many late comers to the sport seem to do well, but this guy held a world record in the 1930s (4x110yd relay), and was 100m National Champ (AAU) in 1941. And still had success when he was 80. Sincerely hope Popejoy, Gray, and Rodgers enjoy the same success.
