Of course it's true. Not sure why they are worried about her image. She was only one bleep away from that quote in her 60 min interview. After watching 60 min I'm sure it's true.

If you google "f-- s-- up Shalane Flanagan" and you'll get a number of hits pre-RW article alluding the her use of the phrase. Particularly interesting is a repeated story of her saying it to Kara Goucher on the starting line at the London Olympics.
She just wants to cuss like a sailor, train like an animal, and drink lots of beer. My kind of gal.
What does Steve have to do with any of this. Does he have the power to change history?
I still don't know what the S__ means. Is it short for excrement? Horse Manure?
I agree with the image thing being weird. Why remove that from the article and keep the partying at keggers (even though she only had one and others had like 20) while not 21. And on 60 minutes mention the swearing thing.

Why yes, he does.
Steve somehow managed a 4.0 at UNC while being an All America athlete. The day he graduated, he joined the Army as infantry and within 2 years worked his way to a Senior Special Forces Green Beret Marine Ranger and was a part of the SEAL team that killed OBL. It is rumored that he pulled the trigger on OBL after saying "Lights Out, OBL" and then flew the chopper home after the original pilot was injured.
...and you're asking if he has the power to change history?

From her recent runnersworld interview:
"What is the most “Boston” thing about you?
I wish I could say it’s my accent, but it’s not. You know what it is—and this is pretty embarrassing—but if you were to survey the people within my training group, I have a tendency to cuss a little too much. If I’m watching Tom Brady mess up, or if I disapprove of Belichick’s call, my cussing can get out of control. That’s the most identifiably Boston thing about me. We don’t always have the best adjectives."
http://www.runnersworld.com/boston-marathon/qa-with-shalane-flanaganYou obviously don't know Steve, do you?
What does knowing Steve have to do with Shalane admitting to cussing like a sailor?

This is a silly thing. By denying it, she's made it a much bigger story that it would have been. And there's nothing wrong with it, IMHO. She's an adult, and even high school kids can relate to swearing, it's not like Nike is using her to sell shoes to 6 year olds.
Own up, Shalane. Your fans will think more highly of you. Unless, you're denying with the goal of making the story bigger. In which case, touche.
My slogan is you smoke it, you deal it

She didn't deny it. The RW story is true. Letsrun has been duped by a fake.
Why then did RW change their own story too?
This ain't a bahston thing. She learned cussing in an Ebonics seminar at UNC.

Did anyone else see a bigger possible misquote in that RW story? Something about parties and beer??????? Particularly the time of life of those parties?! She should correct that quote. isn't 21 the drinking age in all states?
http://www.runnersworld.com/boston-marathon/flanagans-homecoming-courtRead the article again. shocking. one beer is a bad example.
The QOD pales in comparison IMO as a role model.
Get the stick out of your @ss. No one really cares about the 21 law, It should be 18 as it has been in the past. I'd rather have young people drink in the presence of older adults or at least be more likely to have older adults around in their daily lives than having them make mistakes on their own with less of a support structure around them.
We often go too far with restrictive laws in reaction to a tragedy that is unfortunate but part of living and breathing on this earth. Once the restrictions are in place it takes decades for society to correct its mistakes.

WTF!? At least read the blasted article:
“She’d have a beer,” Cronin said, “while the rest of us would have like 20.”
Yeah, I'm so sure lots of adults were at these parties. 20 beers!! She was at a binge drinking kegger according to her "friend". You want your daughter attending that? How many had the judgement not to drive after 20 beers?
You grow up. It's irresponsible shameful behavior. Binge Drinking is not cool.
Great job removing the quote...none of us can read through that thin black line crossing it out.

But by god it was fun. Nothing like running for the back door of the pub hoping you could make it out to puke in the grass, and not quite making it.

RW removed the reference based on what LRC reported. We apologize for any confusion.
