If you think that the finish time tells the whole story then you truly have no knowledge of the sport.
Now, go ahead and answer THE question: When was the last time a field of elite Africans did not keep up with the lead...in the first few miles...of a major marathon...being run at a pedestrian pace?
I'll be waiting for an answer.
How about a race the same day. In the women's race Flanagan was way by herself. The pack let her go thinking that they would get her later. Same thing with Meb only he hung on.I know Flanagan's pace was faster comparatively but it is unfair to say that Meb's pace is pedestrian. Look at most winning times in Boston. His is pretty typical. Meb is the real deal. I suppose his Olympic medal is a hoax too? He is such a consistent runner that when others choke (in this instance, tactically) he is there to capitalize.
Look at the expression on 2nd and 3rd place in the last mile.... Yeah, they are really letting Meb run away with it. Go get a job.
