Remember, the NCAA, who has ordered schools to "evaluate" their Native American names and mascots, in one of their boldest displays of hypocrisy moved from OVERLAND PARK, KS to INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA. Oops.

This PC bull shit has got to stop. Enough already. Washington Redskins forever.
Being a Cowboy fan I hate, hate, hate the Redskins but would be disappointed if they had to change their name.

You never hear any Vikings complaining do you?
That makes no sense, logically speaking. Now, if the Vikings were winning, your analogy would work. They are not, so it does not.
However, I am offended by the Pirates until this year, when they finally made the playoffs again. Go Pirates!
Speakin' 'bout band 'o pirates, ye be sadly mistaken if ye believe I message anythin' on here to actually make sense.
He quotes data from several surveys of Native American descendants that show very little interest or offense.

The native peoples have zero power in our nation.
The members of that other Tribe that comprises many if not most of the owners in the NFL, on the other hand, have oodles of power and for the most part are a bunch of racist prix.
Do not expect any name change.
Tell that to the Seminole Tribe of the Florida- they own the Hard Rock Hotel/Casino empire worldwide.
You really believe that? None of the "Indian" casinos have natives as their primary beneficiaries. They are owned and operated by international "gaming" companies owned by tghat other Tribe I mentioned earlier
This should be required reading for everyone who wants to change the name:http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/9689220/redskins-name-change-not-easy-sounds
I think it's ridiculous. People pick mascots as a term of endearment.
http://www.rmusd.net/education/components/sectionlist/default.php?sectiondetailid=86&it is becoming more and more obvious that the people complaining about the redskins name are only trying to target the "mean old white man". little do they know that redskins fans come in all colors and shades and nationalities, the majority of which are most likely non-white and have no connection to the caucasion calvary that once impacted indian tribes. because certain Indians hate the sole image and emblem of the indian being used as a mascot, it really only means that they hate themselves. they have no pride. they are ashamed of the image of the American indian. bottom line os that proud Indians are not offended because they atleast have enough dignity and charisma to hold pride in the image of the indian and feel honored that its a mascot. mocking? no. it honoring. perhaps the greatest tragedy of this entire ordeal is that Indians, including myself, are no longer allowed to call ourself indian or wear a tshirt with an indian on it, simply because of the anti-indian crowd. PREVENTING FREE SPEECH AND REPRESENTATION FROM NON-INDIANS IS ONE THING, BUT PREVENTING IT FROM OTHER INDIANS IS ANOTHER. AS AN AMERICAN INDIAN, THE WHITE MAN IS NO LONGER MY GREATEST ENEMY. MY GREATEST ENEMY IS NOW OTHER INDIANS WHO ARE ANTI-PRIDE AND WANTING TO REMOVE MY INDIAN IDENTITY. IT USED TO BE THE WHITE MAN THAT DID THIS, AND NOW ITS INDIANS FROM THE ONEIDA TRIBE. I WILL CHOOSE THE PROUD WHITE PEOPLE ANY DAY OVER THE ASHAMED AND LOW SELF ESTEEM GROUP OF QUICK TO GET OFFENDED INDIANS.
Let's cut the BS.
Any team in Washington DC ought to be called the Zi*nists.
Now let's see all you hypocritical posters who pooh-pooh the controversy over the name Redskins as PC run amok show us what real PC is in America and attack me and this idea as the ultimate in racism.
As calls for change to the name of the Redskins continue to grow louder, franchise owner Dan Snyder has once again publicly defended the nickname. In a letter to season ticket holders steeped in nostalgia, Snyder goes as far as to call on those offended by the team's name and iconography to keep in mind what it means to him and his fellow fans.
Gee. I wonder what Tribe Snyder is from? Oh that's right, we are not supposed to comment on that. Or even notice it. Now there is real PC run amok.
Snyder will change when it becomes economically advantageous to him. He'll work the league into giving him some concessions then see the light and change the name. Right now he's using this as a point of cohesiveness he doesn't usually get from the Washington fans.
Post of the year so far.
Is it already the year of the self-righteous racist again. Awesome!
.
So, why is it the case that this particular racial group is so often used as a "mascot"?

Why are you so upset that your own race doesn't even have enough to culture for anyone to ever want to name them as a mascot?
Ya, we already know. White people have no culture. Atleast Indians have a culture. And it is a beautiful culture that others love praising and idolizing and making a world class professional team icon.
You are just jealous of Indians and their culture.
To the native on the board claiming the use of indian mascots is ok. You don't speak for an entire race or group of people. It's frustrating to explain why indian mascots are racist to non-natives as it is but to have to explain it to a native who doesn't get it is even more frustrating. In 2013 you would think that people would get this. Unfortunately most Americans don't have contact with NA and therefore don't see the importance of this issue. Let's be blunt here people are saying it's not offensive. Would it be ok to dress up in blackface for halloween? Or to have a team called the fighting nig***RS (i tried typing the real word by the message board blocked it)? Of course not. There would be riots in the streets if that happened. Would it be ok to have a team called the little black sambos? How about the fighting whites? The point is, it is racist to have indian mascots by non-indian teams. Caricatures that are supposed to represent the nearly 600 indian tribes in the nation doesn't make sense.

You don't speak for all Indians either. You are just spouting your own uneducated opinion, which is exactly what it will be seen as to all Indians who have pride and aren't ashamed to be a mascot. You are just another ashamed indian with an uneducated opinion, or someone who got a Liberal Arts degree and wants to express white guilt.
Sir, when will you learn? The overwhelming majority of Indians do NOT want your white guilt.
How about we go back to the sexy white girl who wore an Indian headdress for Victoria Secret? I am sure you will be quick to tell us how much you oppose that, simply because Indian girls aren't that attracted. Just give it up. If anything, Indians should be proud to see that sexy of a woman wearing their regalia. The only other alternative for the politically correct folks like you would be a 400 pound full blood Indian girl with diabetes wearing a Bikini and headdress.
I am full blood and im enrolled in a tribe in Minnesota, and the people whining about mascots make me sick. Let others do as they please and mind your own business. In a way you are like many of the religious people on these boards. If you don't want to be part of atheism or Christianity, why not simply just not be a part of it? BUT NOOOOOOO. You want to control everyone else who disagrees with you.

Umm that exists.... Does Notre Dame's mascot offend you?
