Antibiotics destroy the immune system, and that most definitely wrecks people's lives.
After my experience, I agree with you, and what you've said.
Unfortunately I was younger when this happened, at age 21 I listened to the doctors.
It was such an eye opener about the medical industry. I went from a 30:xx 10k XC runner to barely being able to run under 28:00 minutes for the 8k.
The first doctor I saw said I had mental problems from competing at a high level of running and that my break down in performance was from 'too much pressure'. I knew better.
I then went to my university doctor who put me on a very short round of antibiotics. He had NO answers and no clue what was wrong. I said something is seriously wrong. After taking a short round of the drugs nothing changed.
I then drove a couple hours to see one of the best Lyme Disease specialists in the country. Paid a lot of money out of pocket too.
She had no real answers and put me on the same antibiotics for 3 x as long as the university doctor. Still felt bad.
Felt godawful on every single run for the next year and honestly it took a good 3 years before I started racing post college at the same level I was at.
