43.4 as a soph I think which converts to about the times Wariner is running now.

I have a question. In the article posted on Letsrun Wariner says that he got beat by two white guys at NCAA's last year. Yet when you look up the results of NCAA's 2003 his name is not there. Why not?
43.8 in the finals and he gets gold
44.00
He'll be popular now!!!

He hasn't won an Olympic medal yet... Once he does and stays at the top of his game, he will be popular. Especially if he can win some 400m Gold and 4x400 Gold. Give it time...
actually he has. he just won gold.
Saying that Wariner looks like he could stand to move up to the 8 is akin to saying or assuming that based on looks, a tall person would be good at b-ball. Many runners "move-up" a distance as they age and lose speed. There is no reason at this point for anyone to even mention him moving up. He is an untapped talent, working with arguably the best 400 coach ever. Let's calm down, be patient and see what this guy does over the next 4 to 8 years.
I have been totally excited about this guy since I first saw him run. He decided he wanted to run the 400m after Johnson's gold and he is the major contender. I think he is subtly popular. If people caught his interview they would definitely be hooked. His popularity will increase as he will win the 400m.
I applaud Jeremy and his gold. He’s done a terrific job representing America. I laugh when I read how people think any aspect of sports belong to one particular people. Do you realize how stupid that sounds? Many factors have made this man the success he has achieved today; none have to do with race. If you didn’t know him then, you know him now. I bet most of you can’t name the man who won the 100M. And if you can I bet you didn’t know him before he won. Leave race out and the spirit of competition in.
I just saw Jeremy Wariner for the first time tonight, and he was great. To be honest, I wasn't sure if he was black or white - and actually thought he was of mixed race. Whatever the case may be, popular or not, he is an Olympic champion. For once, let's not make race an issue, and just revel in his success. Please!
I think it's the in-bred look that's hurting him...
Why don't his sunglasses fall off when he runs?

Probably the two guys from Minnesota, he didn't make the final as a freshman did he? In the Big12 champs this year he was DQ'd for running on the line, maybe something similar happened last year?
He was not popular because he was up and coming and only had a couple NCAA titles and US trials win to his credit. Now he will be big. If he keeps dominating, come 2008 he will be huge like Michael Phelps.
He's hot.
Jeremy Wariner will be remembered for having the dedication and persistence to start from nowhere and make it to a World Record Olympic GOLD!!! I think he's one of today's best athletes, and maybe he's not popular now, but people will see what he's done and follow in his path. Here's one. Can anyone argue with that???
Don't be stupid. He is genetically gifted. Anabolic steroids used as a performance enhancing drug add significant lean tissue bulk. Look at the guy.
Also, the guy was running faster than you could ever run in 6th grade well before he had access to steroids and during the pre-pubescent stage where his basal testosterone levels would not have given him much bulk to his fast twitch fatiguable fibers.
Brent W.C., M.D., PhD, PharmD. People like you ruin the sport so don't spit off unless you know what you talking about.
his coach is white
I CAN'T BELIEVE SOMEONE HAD MY LAST COMMENT REMOVED. IF YOU CAN'T TAKE THE HEAT...DON'T DISH IT OUT!
AND FOR THE PERSON WHO WROTE THAT JEREMY IS THE PERFECT MODEL FOR DRUGS...WOW, MAYBE YOU SHOULD GO BACK TO SCHOOL AND LEARN A LITTLE MORE ABOUT STEROIDS. LOOK AT HIM! HAVE YOU EVER SEEN SOMEONE ON STEROIDS? OR MAYBE I SHOULD ASK IF YOU HAVE EVER SEEN A PICTURE OF JEREMY! HE IS 6 FEET TALL AND ONLY WEIGHS 170! JEREMY'S TALENT IS ALL NATURAL, I HAVE BEEN WATCHING THIS KID RUN SINCE HIGH SCHOOL, BACK BEFORE HE EVEN WANTED TO BE A TRACK STAR. IN HIGH SCHOOL HIS DREAM WAS SET ON FOOTBALL.
