Texas HR department:
EXCELLENT POST! And rare for this message board.
I think Texas also looks at TCU's Daryl Anderson. Remember, Bubba was at TCU prior to taking the Texas job. I can' t believe that Texas' short list is very long. Combining the programs means high expectations, and not many can fit into that category.
Money will talk in this instance. Texas was going to pay Bev $450,000 and Bubba was probably making what.......$150 - $200. So they could combine and pay the new hire $500,000 to $600,000 a year. I have to believe that ANYONE (Pat Henry, Chris Bucknam, Robert Johnson, etc) would have to listen to those numbers.
I am happy that Texas will pay that much since the trickle down effect will help all of us in the long term just like football, AD's, basketball, hockey coaches did

Texas probably could pay $500,000 is they wanted to. But its not as simple as just combining the salaries. They'll hire a combined head and an additional assistant to stay at the six paid coach max. So they are replacing two people still.
If you think they combine programs to give coaches more, you are loco. They combine so they will cut payroll.
Its all about money and TX has the most
Bubba was making mid 300's, if I recall. Bev was due to get $495 this year. They can give the head a 500k+ salary and hire the top class assistant. My money is on Henry taking it.
Redwine is good, but how are the men doing at Kansas? For a combined coach, Henry is obviously the best. he needs to make sure both programs are at the highest level possible. Not an easy thing to do.
Give him death for betraying his team!!!!!!!!
Pat Henry seems a little old. I would think they would go after someone younger.
Thornton had to take the season off after pulling his hamstring during the recent NCAA meet in Oregon. It happened right after the start of the steeplechase, where he thought he saw Henry Lelei of Texas a&m move at the starting line. So, he was in a dead sprint to the other side of the track where he could file a protest, that it was a false start and Henry gained a huge advantage. Ironically he filed the protest with the same meet referee that watched the video at regionals where the fresno st anchor leg gave a pretty good forearm shiver to a&m 3rd leg right before the exchange on the 4X1. This referee failed to see where there was a foul and upheld the DQ. Poor Bubba needs to rehab that hamstring. So Texas told him to take the year off and go ahead and quit.
Texas A&M invests more money (higher budget) than Univ. of Texas in the sports of Track & Field and Cross Country.
Why would Pat Henry want to leave the most successful and most well-funded TF/XC gig in the state and almost the country?
That may be true for now, but Texas could write him a blank check.
Have you visited Austin and CS and do you know the history of the two schools?
I'm just saying that he won't hang up if he gets a call from them. That said, while he's the best now, he's on the older side and they could go a different direction with it. Hard to say for sure.
as someone on the team who feel bad for posting on here but does it anyway ill just say it::
this whole thing has very large comedic value. our coach makes fun of texas and thinks that their coaches are pathetic entitled and arrogant. he loves hoisting national championship trophies above their heads and will continue to do so in a texas a&m position he thinks bubba is a big crybaby and trus t me. coach henry will not be going anywhere. he'll continue to lead us in college station where I'll be getting another national championship ring by most likely next year. so suck it!
outta here

What a great attitude for a coach to have.
Really a strong role model isn't he?

Yes, Aggies hate Longhorns and constantly make fun of them. It's their entire M.O. Hell, we even (used to) burn a UT emblem (t.u. so it's even more degrading) on top of our bonfire. "Saw varsity's horns off" is our war hymn. Tshirts and stickers galore around town show a longhorn decapitated. Why is this news?
But, I do hope Henry stays in CS.

Wow, judging your grammar assures me that you are getting a great education there! Congrats!
Apparently PH has been offered $650k/year to be the head coach at Texas. Rumored, of course.
I was thinking the same thing about the tone and grammar of the message.
Wiki says: Pat Henry is the current track & field coach at Texas A&M University. He is also the former track & field coach at Louisiana State University (LSU) where he won 27 national championships.
So I cant believe he's married to the T-A&M program and he wasnt to LSU where he was instrumental in the team earning 27 national champs.
This is strickly business!
Role model you speak of??
Are you talking about the cry baby that would rather spend more time trying to get other teams disqualified
Or what about the Texas coach that smells like alcohol all the time
Those role models?
I really doubt that. Texas could easily pay that, but I wonder if they would. That amount would be hard to turn down. I will admit that Texas can outbid anyone - it is almost like they print money.
